Background: Optical spectral transmission (OST) is a modern diagnostic method capable of quantifying inflammation in the finger and wrist joints of arthritis patients by assessing the blood-specific absorption of light transmitted through a tissue. The diagnostic performance of this modality has not been adequately examined and data regarding OST associations with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are limited. Aim of this study was therefore to investigate the performance of OST in assessing joint inflammation as compared to MRI in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA).

Introduction: Although there are a number of neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations that can be applied to the treatment of perioperative non-small cell lung cancer patients, the optimal treatment combination strategy has not yet been determined.

Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.go and randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from major international conferences for literature related to neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations published as first-line treatment options for non-small cell lung cancer from the start of the library to 20 February 2024, and performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Joint spatiotemporal modelling of tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus in Ethiopia using a Bayesian hierarchical approach.

BMC Public Health

January 2025

Department of Statistics, University of South Africa, c/o Christiaan de Wet Road & Pioneer Avenue, Private Bag X6, Florida, 1710, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Background: The aim of this paper was to evaluate the distribution of HIV and TB in Ethiopia during four years (2015-2018) at the district level, considering both spatial and temporal patterns.

Methods: Consolidated data on the count of TB case notifications and the number of patients with HIV for four years, 2015-2018, were provided by the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health. The data was analyzed using the Bayesian hierarchical approach, employing joint spatiotemporal modelling.

Identification of novel serum lipid metabolism potential markers and metabolic pathways for oral cancer: a population-based study.

BMC Cancer

January 2025

Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Environment Factors and Cancer, School of Public Health, Fujian Medical University, 1 Xueyuan Road, Fujian, 350108, China.

Objective: This study aims to identify potential lipid biomarkers and metabolic pathways associated with oral cancer (OC). Then to establish and evaluate disease classification models capable of distinguishing OC patients from healthy controls.

Methods: A total of 41 OC patients and 41 controls were recruited from a hospital in Southeast China to examine the serum lipidomics by Ultra-high Performance Liquid Chromatography Q Exactive Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS).

Background: To evaluate the associations between anatomical changes and visual outcomes after membrane peeling in eyes with different stages of idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Methods: All iERM eyes were graded into four stages based on the presence of ectopic inner foveal layers (EIFL) and underwent 23-gauge vitrectomy combined with ERM and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, while their fellow eyes were treated as the control group. OCTA was used to measure retinal thickness(RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ)-related parameters and superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP) layers using 6 × 6 mm scans before, 1 month and 3 months after surgery.
