A tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) represents a condition characterized by abnormal communication between the gastrointestinal tract and the airways. Although the current gold-standard treatment is surgery, pre-existing clinical conditions may represent contraindications. We therefore propose a bronchoscopic approach through rigid bronchoscopy without tracheostomy for total repair in patients suffering from benign tracheoesophageal fistulas.

Background: Anterior column realignment (ACR), using a lateral lumbar or thoracic interbody fusion (LLIF) approach to release the anterior longitudinal ligament (ALL), is a powerful technique to increase segmental lordosis. We here report our experience with the use of expandible LLIF cages for ACR.
Methods: Retrospective, single-center observational cohort study including consecutive patients treated by LLIF using an expandible interbody implant.

Although electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is effective for treating depression, schizophrenia, and mania, cognitive adverse effects may limit use. One possible mechanism for these effects includes cholinergic transmission alterations, supporting potential use of cholinesterase inhibitors for prevention and treatment of these cognitive deficits. The objective of this review is to determine efficacy and safety of cholinesterase inhibitors clinically used for dementia in reducing ECT cognitive adverse effects.

Purpose: To compare the long-term outcomes among AIS (10-18 years) and young AdIS (YAdIS) (19-40 years) patients with minimum 2 year follow up.
Methods: A retrospective review of AIS and YAdIS patients who underwent primary corrective surgery at a single center was conducted. Demographic, radiographic, operative data, patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), including the ODI and SRS-22r, and long-term complications were collected.
R2 retrotransposons are model site-specific eukaryotic non-LTR retrotransposons that copy-and-paste into gene loci encoding ribosomal RNAs. Recently we demonstrated that avian A-clade R2 proteins achieve efficient and precise insertion of transgenes into their native safe-harbor loci in human cells. The features of A-clade R2 proteins that support gene insertion are not characterized.
