Predicting the recurrence of facial synkinesis after epineurectomy of facial nerve trunk using logistic regression model.

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg

November 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University of Medicine, Shanghai, China; The Cranial Nerve Disease Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Background: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors affecting epineurectomy of the facial nerve trunk for facial synkinesis and use them to establish a prediction model to assess the recurrence of post-operative facial synkinesis.

Methods: A total of 68 patients with synkinesis after facial paralysis were enrolled in this study. They were randomized to the training and testing sets.

Purpose: Achieving precise postoperative alignment is critical for the long-term success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Long-leg standing radiograph (LLR) at 6 weeks post-op is the gold standard for assessing alignment, but its reliance on weight-bearing and positioning makes it less practical in the early postoperative period. Supine computed tomography scanogram (CTS) offers a potential alternative.

Background: Adrenocorticotropin (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome can arise from a pituitary tumour (Cushing's disease) or an ectopic ACTH-secreting tumour, making precise differentiation essential for effective treatment. Bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS) is the gold standard for this differentiation, but false-negative results can limit its accuracy. Adding prolactin (PRL) measurement to BIPSS has been proposed to improve diagnostic precision.

Under confining pressure, rocks transition from brittle failure to plastic failure, and residual strength exists after complete failure. However, in the process of establishing rock damage constitutive models, the strength criteria used usually do not consider residual stress. In cold region engineering, the freeze-thaw effect caused by temperature changes should be considered in the constitutive model, and strength criteria should also be introduced.

Gastrointestinal carriage of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, especially carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE), presents a critical public health threat globally. However, in many resource-constrained countries, epidemiological data on CPE is limited. Here, we assessed gastrointestinal carriage and associated factors of CPE among inpatient and outpatient children (≤ 5 years).
