Objective: In this study, an experiment was conducted to examine whether noise exposure produced acute changes in cardiovascular responses, and whether these responses differed based on psycho-acoustic parameters to noises of low to high intensity.
Methods: Thirty healthy subjects were enrolled. Three industrial noises were binaurally presented with a supra-aural earphone. The sound levels of noise were <55, 75, and 90 dB. Each noise was continued for 20 min and the electrocardiogram was simultaneously recorded.
Results: The results showed a statistically significant increase in systolic blood pressure (SBP) at the 90 dB sound level. The study estimated a blood pressure increase of 0.85 mmHg/10 dB and 0.71 mmHg/10 dB in SBP and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), respectively. These results suggest that exposure to noise, particularly high-frequency noise, negatively impacts blood pressure. The tonality and fluctuation strength of noise especially impacts systolic blood pressure.
Conclusions: The psycho-acoustic parameters of noise should be considered when evaluating the impact of noise exposure.

Although respiratory symptoms are the most prevalent disease manifestation of infection by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), nearly 20% of hospitalized patients are at risk for thromboembolic events. This prothrombotic state is considered a key factor in the increased risk of stroke, which is observed clinically during both acute infection and long after symptoms clear. Here, we develop a model of SARS-CoV-2 infection using human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived endothelial cells (ECs), pericytes (PCs), and smooth muscle cells (SMCs) to recapitulate the vascular pathology associated with SARS-CoV-2 exposure.

Porphyria is a rare and often underdiagnosed metabolic disorder that leads to abdominal pain, pelvic pain, changes in neurological states, and digestive issues due to a buildup of porphyrins in the body. Diagnosis can be especially difficult in young women, where symptoms of porphyria often overlap with gynecological conditions. We present a case of a 37-year-old female patient who was experiencing persistent lower abdominal and pelvic pain, brain fog and confusion, and a rash after long sun exposure.

Background: Ondansetron is widely used for prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after general anesthesia. While previous studies have emphasized its early use, the effects of ondansetron in intensive care unit (ICU) patients following cardiac surgery remain unclear. This study investigates the association between postoperative ondansetron exposure and the risk of mortality, acute kidney injury (AKI), and postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in ICU patients after cardiac surgery.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) requiring continuous renal replacement therapy is common in critically ill patients. The ADVanced Organ Support (ADVOS) system is a novel hemodialysis machine that uses albumin enriched dialysate which allows the removal of protein-bound toxins and drugs. To date, data on antimicrobial removal under ADVOS has not yet been reported.

Background: Post-COVID-19 syndrome refers to a variety of symptoms that affect different organs in the body and can persist 28 days following exposure to COVID-19. Previous studies have shown that COVID-19 affects not only elderly individuals but also young adults. However, the influence of post-COVID-19 syndrome on young adults has not been studied sufficiently.
