Recent progress in metabolomics for analyzing common infertility conditions that affect ovarian function.

Reprod Med Biol

September 2024

Department of Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine Ms.Clinic MayOne Kashihara Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • Metabolomics is being used to identify biomarkers in follicular fluid (FF) that could help improve in vitro fertilization success by analyzing energy metabolism and oocyte quality.
  • Key findings indicate that FF metabolites stem from various metabolic pathways, and that infertile women can be categorized based on differing metabolic responses related to conditions like aging, endometriosis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
  • Future prospects in research suggest that by evaluating specific metabolite levels in FF, we might better predict reproductive outcomes for women undergoing fertility treatments.
