The continuing efforts of creating novel D-A-π-A structured organic sensitizers with excellent optoelectronic properties have resulted in substantial improvement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) as well as stability of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Here, we report a new molecular engineering strategy for enhancing optical gain and improving excited-state features in D-A-π-A structured organic sensitizers by improving the conjugation size and rigidity of the auxiliary acceptor functional group. A series of phenanthrene-fused-quinoxaline (PFQ)-based D-A-π-A organic sensitizers (WS-82, WS-83, and WS-84) are designed and synthesized for applications in DSSCs. Compared to 2,3-diphenylquinoxaline (DPQ)-based dye IQ-4, PFQ dyes show extended absorption spectra and improved open-circuit voltage performance. Upon a systematical engineering of alkyl chains and π-spacer structure, the unfavorable issues of PFQ dyes including low solubility and high energy barrier in intramolecular charge transition are successfully eliminated. When applied in iodine electrolyte-based DSSCs, the best performing PFQ dye WS-84 shows a PCE of 10.11%, which is much higher than that of our previous champion DPQ dye IQ-4 under the same conditions.

Lanthanide-doped upconversion luminescent nanoparticles (UCNPs) have garnered extensive attention due to their notable anti-Stokes shifts and superior photostability. Notably, Ho-based UCNPs present a complex energy level configuration, which poses challenges in augmenting their luminescence efficiency. Herein, a rational design strategy was used to enhance the upconversion luminescence intensity of Ho ions by improving the photon absorption ability and energy utilization efficiency.

Formaldehyde (FA) is a ubiquitous indoor air pollutant emitted from construction, consumer, and combustion-related products, and ozone-initiated reactions with reactive organic volatiles. The derivation of an indoor air quality guideline for FA by World Health Organization in 2010 did not find convincing evidence for bronchoconstriction-related reactions as detrimental lung function. Causal relationship between FA and asthma has since been advocated in meta-analyses of selected observational studies.

Herein, we report a novel ratiometric nanoprobe (CDs@LZIF-8-Eu) that integrates fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) and Eu on LZIF-8 via a one-pot stirring method. Tetracyclines (TCs) can create inner filter effect on CDs while simultaneously generating an antenna effect with Eu. The rapid and efficient adsorption capabilities of LZIF-8 enhance the probability of TCs interacting with the signal tags.

In the context of the FEEDAP opinion on the safety and efficacy of a feed additive consisting of chromium propionate (KemTRACE™ Chromium) of 18 March 2021, the EU Reference Laboratory for feed additives (EURL) was not in a position to recommend the method: proposed by the applicant for official control for the quantification of the organic chromium content in premixtures and feedingstuffs. The applicant subsequently proposed a new method of analyses, incorporating a tracer in the composition of a premix, which has been evaluated by EURL and recommended as official method for the quantification of the organic chromium content in premixtures and feedingstuffs. In view of the above, the Commission asked EFSA to issue a new opinion on the safety and efficacy of chromium proprionate (KemTRACE™ Chromium) as feed additive for all growing poultry species including the newly submitted information by the applicant that involves the use of the microtracer.

Nano-TiO as an antimicrobial inorganic material, can stimulate cells to produce reactive oxygen species and exhibit effective biochemical properties; however, phenylpyrazole derivatives, as organic pesticides, are widely used in agriculture and food. To find novel pesticides with environmental friendliness, combined with three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) prediction analysis, three types of alkaloidal phenylpyrazole amine derivatives (PA) were synthesized by a one-pot microwave method. Based on the dye sensitization strategy, four nano-organometallic pesticides (PT) were prepared by organic-inorganic hybridization.
