Stupor is a diagnostic challenge at emergency department. Differential diagnosis includes idiopathic recurrent stupor, formerly attributed to "endozepine-4" accumulation. This condition has been recently questioned because many suspected cases resulted in exogenous benzodiazepine intake that eludes the conventional toxicological assay. In case of unexplained recurrent stupor, to extend the benzodiazepine search in nonconventional matrices can allow unmasking of hidden toxic behavior.

Gliomas are tumors arising in the central nervous system, frequently associated with Class I mutations and BRAF fusions. These mutations are adverse prognostic factors in juvenile gliomas, leading to high rates of recurrence and poor response to current treatments. The blood-brain barrier and the heterogeneity of gliomas complicate the development of a single treatment strategy for all cases.

December 2024

Advanced Vetcare, Level 1, 26 Robertson Street, Kensington, Victoria, 3031, Australia.

Article Synopsis
  • An 8-year-old Australian Silky Terrier exhibited symptoms like lethargy, shaking, and lack of appetite, leading to a veterinary visit where a rectal mass was discovered.
  • The mass was surgically removed and identified as a low-grade mast cell tumor (MCT) with a mitotic count of 0, suggesting less aggressive behavior.
  • Following the surgery, the dog underwent a chemotherapy regimen and, 30 weeks later, showed no signs of tumor recurrence and remained healthy at the 9-month mark, indicating a potentially better prognosis than previously reported for similar cases.
