New iridoid glycoside derivatives from durantoside I, the latter from the dried flowers and leaves of Citharexylum spinosum, were synthesized by variously modifying a sugar moiety by silylation or acetylation and/or removal of cinnamate group at C-7 position and subsequent screening for comparative cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines. Addition of alkylsilane to durantoside I and removal of cinnamate group were most effective in improving cytotoxicity.

The present study reports the complete genome of a novel monopartite begomovirus, named tentatively as "Citharexylum leaf curl virus" (CitLCuV), associated with leaf curl disease of Citharexylum spinosum in India. CitLCuV genome (2767 nucleotide) contained the typical genome organization of Old World begomoviruses and shared the maximum nucleotide sequence identity of 89.7% with a papaya leaf crumple virus (PaLCrV) isolate.

Microscopic visualization of micro-morphological characters were analyzed using a scanning electron microscopic (SEM) tool, which has proven to be very successful to analyze the pollen surface peculiarities. The significant goal of this research was to perform microscopic examination of pollen of some of the most frequently visited honeybee floral species around apiaries. Micro-morphological characterization of frequented honeybees foraged plants were discussed.

Previously phytochemical investigations carried out on the flowers and trunk bark extracts of Citharexylum spinosum L. tree, allowed the isolation of twenty molecules belonging to several families of natural substances [triterpene acids, iridoid glycosides, phenylethanoid glycosides, 8,3'-neolignan glycosides, together with other phenolic compounds]. In the present work, a biological evaluation (anti-tyrosinase, anticholinesterase and cytotoxic activities) was performed on the prepared extracts and the isolated secondary metabolites.

Three bacterial isolates were identified from infected potato tubers showing soft and blackleg like symptoms as well as one isolate from infected pear tree showing crown gall symptom. Conventional and molecular identification proved that bacterial isolates belonging to Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum, Pectobacterium atrosepticum, Dickeya solani and Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
