Chromatic discrimination data show that a smaller physical stimulus change is required to detect a change in hue than to detect a change in saturation [Palette30, 21 (1968); Proc. R. Soc. London Ser. B283, 20160164 (2016)PRLBA40080-464910.1098/rspb.2016.0164], and, on this basis, it has been suggested that hue and saturation are carried in different neural channels [Color Space and Its Divisions: Color Order from Antiquity to the Present (Wiley, 2003), p. 311]. We used an adaptation paradigm to test explicitly for separate mechanisms, measuring hue and saturation detection thresholds before and after adaptation to hue and saturation stimuli. Within-condition adaptation did not elevate detection thresholds significantly more than between-condition adaptation. We therefore did not find psychophysical evidence for a neural channel that extracts hue thresholds more effectively than the neural channel or channels that determine saturation thresholds.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) falls within the spectrum of central nervous system (CNS) demyelinating diseases that may lead to permanent neurological disability. Fundamental to the diagnosis and clinical surveillance is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that allows for the identification of T2-hyperintensities associated with autoimmune injury that demonstrate distinct spatial distribution patterns. Here, we describe the clinical experience of a 31-year-old, right-handed, White man seen in consultation at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, following complaints of headaches that began after head trauma related to military service.

Sustainability in beekeeping depends on identifying the factors affecting honey and beeswax yields (HY and BWY) - key products - and accurately predicting these yields. Therefore, this study aimed to predict HY and BWY using a classification and regression tree (CART), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Random Forest (RF) algorithms, and thermal image processing in Apis mellifera. In this study, 13 colonies of 6 different breeds raised in 10-frame Langstroth hives were used.

Pesticide residues are identified as a significant food safety issue in Hami melons, and their rapid and accurate detection is deemed critical for ensuring public health. In response to the cumbersome procedures with existing chemical detection methods, this study explored the potential of identifying different pesticide residues in Hami melon by microfluorescence hyperspectral imaging (MF-HSI) technology combined with machine learning. By simulating the actual agricultural production, three pesticides, Beta-Cypermethrin, Difenoconazole, and Acetamiprid, were sprayed on Hami melons.

Article Synopsis
  • Color plays a crucial role in how people visually experience museum spaces, impacting their perception of exhibitions.
  • The study utilized eye-tracking and questionnaires to analyze the relationship between color attributes (hue, saturation, brightness) and visual perception in a history museum.
  • Findings indicated that optimal color saturation (69-77%) and the hue red can enhance color attractiveness, while the duration of initial eye fixation relates negatively to personal preferences and comfort levels.

To solve the challenging issue of uneven reflectance of high-fidelity surface, this paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) shape measurement method based on surface adaptation complementary colorimetry-encoded fringe projection profilometry. A complete complementary hue extraction method simulates the retina stimulation to establish the complementary conversion relationship between the projected and collected colors of the measurement system. On this basis, a surface reflectance adaptation fringe pattern encoding strategy is proposed to measure the high-fidelity surfaces.
