Background: Exposure to alcohol prenatally can result in a child being diagnosed with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Affected infants experience lifelong impairments that can involve, physical, cognitive, behavioural and emotional difficulties that impact on their functional capacity. Effective prevention of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder is critically needed in Australia. Reduction in the prevalence of this disorder will only be possible if we prevent alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
Aim: This paper provides an overview of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and discusses the role of caseload midwifery as part of a multi-level prevention approach.
Findings: Drawing on previous research, caseload midwifery has potential to support the prevention of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder through continuity of care.
Conclusion: Prevention of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder will be more likely if women experience a supportive relationship with a known midwife, who has received appropriate training and can enable women to feel comfortable in discussing and addressing alcohol use.

While ethanol-sensitive genetic mutations contribute to facial malformations, the impacted cellular mechanisms remain unknown. Background: Adults with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) experience many adverse health and social outcomes, yet their healthcare utilisation is under-researched.
Method: This population-based descriptive cohort study utilised ICES provincial administrative health databases and Canadian Death Vital Statistics to identify adults with FAS via usage of hospital-based services (2002-2013) and examine their demographics, healthcare utilisation, mental health and addiction diagnoses, and mortality during follow-up (2014-2017).
Results: 565 adults with FAS were included in the cohort.

We present a study of protein corona formation and NP biodistribution in amniotic fluid (AF) for poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and poly(lactic-acid) (PLA) NPs, with and without polyethylene glycol (PEG), as well as poly(amine-co-ester)-PEG (PACE-PEG) NPs. The presence of surface PEG and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were characterized to investigate surfactant role in determining protein corona formation.
