Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common condition in older adults, with high epidemiological, clinical, and economic burden worldwide. In clinical practice, patients with knee OA often walk with abnormal gait patterns because of pain, stiffness and/or mobility dysfunctions. Therefore, assessing the symmetry of the lower limbs might improve the rehabilitation treatment and prescription of walking devices.
Aims: To compare the symmetry of step length and single support phase between lower limbs during gait of older women with bilateral knee OA and asymptomatic controls, and to verify if there is difference between these two groups in relation to velocity, cadence, step length and single support phase.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included a convenience sample of 66 community-dwelling older women aged ≥ 65 years with a medical diagnosis of symptomatic bilateral knee OA (n = 33) and asymptomatic controls (n = 33), matched by age and body mass index. All gait parameters were obtained using the GAITRite system.
Results: Mean age of the sample was 72.6 ± 4.0 years. Participants with OA walked with lower velocity (p = 0.001), cadence (p = 0.009) and step length bilaterally (both p = 0.001). No significant difference was found between groups in the symmetry of step length between lower limbs, single support phase and symmetry of single support phase between lower limbs.
Conclusion: Older women with bilateral knee OA walk with lower velocity, cadence and step length, but have the same symmetry in the step length and single support phase between lower limbs as asymptomatic older women.

Millions of individuals surviving a stroke have lifelong gait impairments that reduce their personal independence and quality of life. Reduced walking speed is one of the major problems limiting community mobility and reintegration. Previous studies have shown positive effect of robot-assisted gait training utilizing hip exoskeletons for individuals with gait impairments due to a stroke, leading to increased walking speed in post-treatment compared to pre-treatment assessments.

Purpose: To determine if endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) should be performed with surgery or as a different step, on acute cholecystitis, and which strategy has the least complications and morbimortality.
Methods: Various databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, clinical trials, Google Scholar) were searched for randomized trials comparing the different timings for ERCP and cholecystectomy. No language or time restrictions were applied.

The [4+2] Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction between 2,5-DMF (1) and ethylene derivatives (2a-h) activated by electron-withdrawing groups has been studied at the density functional theory levels using a panoply of tools to unravel the reaction mechanisms. From the analysis of the reactivity indices, 2a-h behave as electrophiles while 1 as nucleophile, and the activation of the double bond of ethylene increases its electrophilicity, which is accompanied by an enhancement of the polarity of the reaction. The activation Gibbs free energy decreases linearly as a function of this increase of polarity, as estimated by the electrophilicity difference between the reactants.
