In this paper, we investigate the synthesis of WSe by chemical vapor deposition and study the current transport and device scaling of monolayer WSe. We found that the device characteristics of the back-gated WSe transistors with thick oxides are very sensitive to the applied drain bias, especially for transistors in the sub-micrometer regime. The threshold voltage, subthreshold swing, and extracted field-effect mobility vary with the applied drain bias. The output characteristics in the long-channel transistors show ohmic-like behavior, while that in the short-channel transistors show Schottky-like behavior. Our investigation reveals that these phenomena are caused by the drain-induced barrier lowering (short-channel effect). For back-gated WSe transistors with 280 nm oxide, the short-channel effect appears when the channel length is shorter than 0.4 µm. This extremely long electrostatic scaling length is due to the thick back-gate oxides. In addition, we also found that the hydrogen flow rate and the amount of WO precursor play an important role in the morphology of the WSe. The hole mobility of the monolayer WSe is limited by Columbic scattering below 250 K, while it is limited by phonon scattering above 250 K. These findings are very important for the synthesis of WSe and accurate characterization of the electronic devices based on 2D materials.

Rusip is a spontaneously fermented anchovy product originating from Bangka Belitung province in Indonesia, used as umami seasoning. This study investigated the characteristics of rusip and its umami fractions to reveal umami peptides in rusip. Six commercial rusip samples from Bangka were analyzed for their proximate composition, pH, total titratable acids, NaCl, total sugars, free glutamic acid, nucleotide (adenosine monophosphate), and total amino acid composition.

Article Synopsis
  • 2D materials, such as transition metal-dichalcogenides like MoS, have gained significant attention for their unique layered structures, which lead to distinct physicochemical properties when isolated as single layers compared to their bulk forms.
  • The ability to stack and twist these layers creates new phenomena, such as Moiré patterns, while misfit layer compounds (MLCs) introduce unconventional lattice structures that allow for the formation of nanotubes.
  • The stability and behavior of these nanostructures, particularly under elevated temperatures, are important aspects that remain underexplored, prompting studies using advanced techniques like electron microscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray methods to understand their decomposition and recrystallization processes.

The frequency, duration, and size of wildfires have been increasing, and the inhalation of wildfire smoke particles poses a significant risk to human health. Epidemiological studies have shown that wildfire smoke exposure is positively associated with cognitive and neurological dysfunctions. However, there is a significant gap in knowledge on how wildfire smoke exposure can affect the blood-brain barrier and cause molecular and cellular changes in the brain.

We report a synthesis of WSe nanocrystals in which the number of layers is controlled by varying the precursor concentration. By altering the ratios and concentrations of W(CO) and PhSe in trioctylphosphine oxide, we show that high [Se] and large Se/W ratios lead to an increased number of layers per nanocrystal. As the number of layers per nanocrystal is increased, the nanocrystal ensembles show less phase-conversion from the metastable 2M phase to the thermodynamically favored 2H phase.
