This study reports the survival rate and short-term neurologic outcome of children who sustained cardiac arrests at Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children, a pediatric teaching hospital. A commonly held belief in pediatric centers has been that children tolerate the insult of cardiac arrest better than adults. Cardiac arrest was defined as the need for external or internal cardiac compressions. Critical care nurses specially trained for this project collected the arrest data and performed the serial neurological exams. Results showed that despite a low overall survival rate, neurological outcome appears to be good after the arrest even in patients who expire prior to discharge. Major neurologic deficits, such as hemiplegia and severe developmental delay, do not occur. Nursing implications of the study, which is in its second year, are discussed.

This study aimed to investigate the association of metabolic derangements with outcomes in patients resuscitated from OHCA.
Methods: Blood samples from 156 consecutive unconscious OHCA patients in the Targeted Temperature Management trial were analyzed at hospital admission.

This study aims to shed more light on the specific neuroprotective mechanisms of Kirenol, a bioactive diterpene derived from traditional herbal medicine, with a particular focus on its regulation of mitochondrial dynamics via the CK2/AKT signalling pathway and its impact on the mitochondrial fusion protein Optic atrophy 1 (Opa1). The effects of Kirenol on neuronal viability, mitochondrial function, and pertinent signalling pathways were evaluated by employing a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model in rats and subjecting HT22 neuronal cells to oxidative stress.

Introduction: Bilateral total knee arthroplasty (B-TKA) represents an increasingly used option to address advanced bilateral knee osteoarthritis (OA). The aim of this study was to quantify and compare one-stage and two-stage B-TKA results in terms of clinical outcomes, perioperative parameters, complication, revision, and mortality rates.
Methods: The literature search was conducted using three databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science) in February 2024 according to the guidelines for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA).
