Alpha-momorcharin (α-MMC) is a type-I ribosome inactivating protein (RIP) with a molecular weight of 29 kDa found in plants. This protein has been shown to be effective against a broad range of human viruses and also has anti-tumor activities. However, the mechanism by which α-MMC induces plant defense responses and regulates the N gene to promote resistance to the Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is still not clear. By using pharmacological and infection experiments, we found that α-MMC enhances TMV resistance of tobacco plants containing the N gene (tobacco). Our results showed that plants pretreated with 0.5 mg/ml α-MMC could relieve TMV-induced oxidative damage, had enhanced the expression of the N gene and increased biosynthesis of jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA). Moreover, transcription of JA and SA signaling pathway genes were increased, and their expression persisted for a longer period of time in plants pretreated with α-MMC compared with those pretreated with water. Importantly, exogenous application of 1-Aminobenzotriazole (ABT, SA inhibitor) and ibuprofen (JA inhibitor) reduced α-MMC induced plant resistance under viral infection. Thus, our results revealed that α-MMC enhances TMV resistance of tobacco plants by manipulating JA-SA crosstalk.

Background: Development of novel chiral antifungal agents for effective control of plant pathogens is urgently needed. In this study, a series of pyrazol-5-yl-benzamide derivatives containing chiral oxazoline moiety were rationally designed and developed based on molecular docking.

Results: The in vitro antifungal assay results indicated that compounds (rac)-4h (R = Et), (S)-4 h (R = S-Et) and (R)-4 h (R = R-Et) exhibited remarkable antifungal activities against Valsa mali with median effective concentration (EC) values of 0.

Aquaporins are widely present in the plant kingdom and play important roles in plant response to abiotic adversity stresses such as water and temperature extremes. In this study, we investigated the regulatory role of NTPIP2;4 on drought tolerance in tobacco at physiological and transcriptional levels. In this experiment, we constructed an NtPIP2;4 overexpression vector and genetically transformed tobacco variety 'K326' to investigate the mechanism of NtPIP2;4 gene in regulating drought tolerance in tobacco at physiological and transcriptomic levels.

The striped stem borer (Chilo suppressalis, SSB) is a highly destructive insect pest in rice (Oryza sativa). SSB oral secretions (OSs) can induce plant defense responses in rice. However, the specific effectors in SSB OSs that mediate these interactions with rice remain poorly understood.

The rapid development of wearable technology, flexible electronics, and human-machine interaction has brought about revolutionary changes to the fields of motion analysis and physiological monitoring. Sensors for detecting human motion and physiological signals have become a hot topic of current research. Inspired by the muscle fiber structure, this paper proposed a highly stable strain sensor that was composed of stretchable Spandex fibers (SPF), multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and silicone rubber (Ecoflex).
