Background: Anticoagulants increase the risk of cardiac tamponade in patients with pericardial effusion (PE). Therefore, inappropriate administration of them in the presence of PE can lead to a catastrophic outcome. This study presents a patient with a provisional misdiagnosis of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Do people use their statistical expertise selectively to reach preferred conclusions when evaluating scientific evidence, with those more expert showing more preferential bias? We investigated this motivated numeracy account of evidence evaluation but came to a different account for biased evaluation. Across three studies ( = 2,799), participants interpreted numerical data from gun control intervention studies. In Studies 1 and 2, participants reached accurate conclusions more frequently from scientific data when those data aligned with their political preferences than when they did not, an attitude congeniality effect.

Helices are one of the most frequently encountered symmetries in biological assemblies. Helical symmetry has been exploited in electron microscopic studies as a limited number of filament images, in principle, can provide all the information needed to do a three-dimensional reconstruction of a polymer. Over the past 25 years, three-dimensional reconstructions of helical polymers from cryo-EM images have shifted completely from Fourier-Bessel methods to single-particle approaches.

The structure of HPM-3, a layered aluminophosphate prepared using 1,2,3-trimethylimidazolium (123TMI) as an organic structure-directing agent by the fluoride route, has been solved by continuous rotation electron diffraction (cRED), and Rietveld refined against synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction data. Charge balance of the occluded cation is achieved through F anions and dangling Al(OP)OH groups. Half of the Al is pentacoordinated in negatively charged Al(OP)-F-Al(OP) pairs.
