We present a case of a severe osteoporotic octogenarian who sustained serious flail chest from a traffic accident. The 3rd-9th ribs of the right chest wall were fractured. Non-operative management was unsuccessful. We performed a surgical fixation using a bio-absorbable and bio-active mini-plating set. This plating set is unsintered hydroxyapatite (u-HA) particles/poly-L-lactide (PLLA) composite osteosynthesis device commonly used for cranial, oral, and maxillofacial surgeries. The use of the u-HA/PLLA device for chest wall reconstruction has previously been reported, but no long-term results have been included. This case showed several advantages of the procedure with 4-year follow-up over other reported methods, especially in an osteoporotic elderly patient.

Locking plates have a rapidly growing process especially in the past decades and results are satisfactory especially in the osteoporotic bones compared to non-locking compression plates. There are many forms of failure in the fracture fixation of locking plates, and screw pull-out is one of the main failure reasons. In this study, we aim to investigate pull-out failure in locking plates using locking spongious screws.

To investigate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of a novel approach to managing the incisions used to treat tibial plateau fractures (TPFs) with soft tissue swelling. We retrospectively enrolled 64 patients with TPFs who underwent surgery at the Second Hospital of Shandong University. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A (n = 32) underwent early surgery with the novel incision management technique, and Group B (n = 32) underwent conventional surgery after swelling reduction.

Objectives: In our institution, a unique sling technique is performed for urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy. However, in cases of severe urinary incontinence or in the medium to long term, the therapeutic effect may be insufficient. Therefore, a urethral sling technique that provides stronger compression of the bulbar urethra was developed, and its effectiveness was compared with the conventional technique.

Introduction: Studies have demonstrated successful outcomes with early weightbearing following open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of specific ankle fractures. The external validity of an early weightbearing protocol and its effects on patient-reported outcome information scores (PROMIS) has yet to be investigated. This study aimed to investigate the effects of an early weightbearing protocol for all operatively treated ankle fractures and its impact on clinical outcomes and complications.

Objective: Although NOG variants are linked to congenital stapes fixation and conductive hearing loss (CHL), little is known about middle ear surgery outcomes and the characteristics of accompanying inner ear anomalies. We explored auditory phenotypes in patients with NOG variants, with a focus on the outcomes of middle ear surgery.
Methods: This study included 11 patients from five unrelated Korean families harboring NOG variants.
