It is a long-standing challenge to combine mixed monomers into multiblock copolymer (MBC) in a one-pot/one-step polymerization manner. We report the first example of MBC with biodegradable polycarbonate and polyester blocks that were synthesized from highly efficient one-pot/one-step polymerization of cyclohexene oxide (CHO), CO and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) in the presence of zinc-cobalt double metal cyanide complex and stannous octoate. In this protocol, two cross-chain exchange reactions (CCER) occurred at dual catalysts respectively and connected two independent chain propagation procedures (, polycarbonate formation and polyester formation) simultaneously in a manner, affording MBC without tapering structure. The multiblock structure of MBC was determined by the rate ratio of CCER to the two chain propagations and could be simply tuned by various kinetic factors. This protocol is also of significance due to partial utilization of renewable CO and improved mechanical properties of the resultant MBC.

December 2024

Theme Inflammation and Aging, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that is accountable for the leading case of dementia in elder people. Before, only symptomatic treatments are available for AD. Since 2021, two anti-amyloid antibodies aducanumab and lecanemab have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Cardiff University, Cardiff, United Kingdom.

Background: Neuroinflammation is a critical factor of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Dysregulation of complement leads to excessive inflammation, direct damage to self-cells and propagation of injury. This is likely of particular relevance in the brain where inflammation is poorly tolerated and brain cells are vulnerable to direct damage by complement.

Background: Dementia is highly stigmatised, misperceived as a mental illness, and considered a normal part of ageing by people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Australia. There is a lack of valid and reliable scale to measure their dementia attitudes. This study aimed to cross-culturally translate and validate a dementia attitudes scale in Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Greek communities as they represent the main languages spoken throughout Western Sydney, Australia.

A mechanistic model for determining factors that influence inorganic nitrogen fate in corn cultivation.

Environ Sci Process Impacts

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

Conventional practices for inorganic nitrogen fertilizer are highly inefficient leading to excess nitrogen in the environment. Excess environmental nitrogen induces ecological (, hypoxia, eutrophication) and public health (, nitrate contaminated drinking water) consequences, motivating adoption of management strategies to improve fertilizer use efficiency. Yet, how to limit the environmental impacts from inorganic nitrogen fertilizer while maintaining crop yields is a persistent challenge.

ENPP-1 is a transmembrane enzyme involved in nucleotide metabolism, and its overexpression is associated with various cancers, making it a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for early tumor diagnosis. Current detection methods for ENPP-1 utilize a colorimetric probe, , which has significant limitations in sensitivity. Here, we present probe , the first nucleic acid-based chemiluminescent probe designed for rapid and highly sensitive detection of ENPP-1 activity.
