Response Surface Methodology was used for optimizing operating variables for a multi-frequency ultrasound reactor using BP-3 as a model compound. The response variable was the Triclosan degradation percent after 10 sonication min. Frequency at levels from 574, 856 and 1134 kHz were used. Power density, pulse time (PT), silent time (ST) and PT/ST ratio effects were also analyzed. 2 and 2 experimental designs were used for screening purposes and a central composite design was used for optimization. An optimum value of 79.2% was obtained for a frequency of 574 kHz, a power density of 200 W/L, and a PT/ST ratio of 10. Significant variables were frequency and power level, the first having an optimum value after which degradation decreases while power density level had a strong positive effect on the whole operational range. PT, ST, and PT/ST ratio were not significant variables although it was shown that pulsed mode ultrasound has better degradation rates than continuous mode ultrasound; the effect less significant at higher power levels.

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a semiconductor used in quantum information processing, microelectromechanical systems, photonics, power electronics, and harsh environment sensors. However, its high-temperature stability, high breakdown voltage, wide bandgap, and high mechanical strength are accompanied by a chemical inertness, which makes complex micromachining difficult. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) etching is a simple, rapid means of wet processing SiC, including the use of dopant-selective etch stops that take advantage of the mature SiC homoepitaxy.

Multifunctional devices based on van der Waals heterojunctions have drawn significant attention owing to their portable size, low power consumption and various application scenarios. However, high fabrication equipment requirements, complex device structures and limited operating conditions hinder their potential value. Herein, multifunctional UV photodetect-memristors based on GaS/graphene/GaN van der Waals heterojunctions area selective deposition have been proposed for the first time.

In thermal therapies, accurate estimation of in-tissue power deposition density (PDD) is essential for predicting temperature distributions over time or regularizing temperature imaging. Based on our previous work on ultrasound thermometry, namely, multi-thread thermal strain imaging (MT-TSI), this work develops an in vivo PDD estimation method. Specifically, by combining the TSI model infinitesimal echo strain filter with the bio-heat transfer theory (the Pennes equation), a finite-difference time-domain model is established to allow online extraction of the PDD.

Since hydrogen is a promising alternative to fossil fuels due to its high energy density and environmental friendliness, water electrolysis for hydrogen production has received widespread attentions wherein the development of active and stable catalytic materials is a key research direction. This article designs a dual transition metal doped functional graphene for hydrogen evolution reaction via density functional theory calculations. Among varied combinations, 16 candidates are screened out that are expected to be stable as reflected by the criterion of formation energy Ef < 0 and active due to its free energy of hydrogen adsorption ∆GH within the window of ±0.
