We have performed hydrodynamic cavitation experiments with an aqueous luminol solution as the working fluid. Light emission, together with the high frequency noise which characterizes cavitation, was emitted by the two-phase flow, whereas no light emission from luminol was recorded in the single phase liquid flow. Light emission occurs downstream transparent microdiaphragms. The maximum level of the recorded signal was around 180 photons per second with flow rates of 380 µl/s, that corresponds to a real order of magnitude of the chemiluminescence of 75,000 photons per second. The yield of emitted photons increases linearly with the pressure drop, which is proportional to the square of the total flow rate. Chemiluminescence of luminol is a direct and a quantitative demonstration of the presence of OH hydroxyl radicals created by hydrodynamic cavitation. The presented method could be a key to optimize channel geometry for processes where radical production is essential.

Microbubble-assisted starch modification (MASM) using different gases (N, CO and air) was employed to assess the effects of hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) on various botanical starches, including potato, wheat, corn and rice. SEM showed that N- and CO- microbubbles created more pronounced holes and cracks on the starch surfaces than air-microbubbles. The hydrodynamic cavitation-assisted microbubble (HCAM) treatment significantly reduced the amorphous and crystalline structures in potato and wheat starches, with less impact observed in corn and rice.

Cavitation has been a hot research topic for scholars in various fields because of the intense mechanical, chemical, and thermal effects of bubble collapse. It forms a cluster of bubbles, and the bubbles will affect, interfere with, and couple with each other. To grasp the main factors affecting bubble collapse and the interbubble mechanism, the paper adopts the molecular dynamics simulation combined with the coarse-grained force field to study the collapse process of the double bubble model and takes the dynamic shape change of the bubbles, the local velocity distribution, and the local pressure distribution as the object to summarize the position angle, the shock velocity, and the bubble distance on the collapse law and the primary and secondary influence relationship and then reveals the interbubble mechanism.

In this study, we adopted the synergistic modification technology of hydrodynamic cavitation and snail enzyme, to improve the yield and activity of soluble dietary fibers (SDFs) of rice husk. The physicochemical properties, structural changes, and inhibition of α-glucosidase and α-amylase of SDFs were examined in vitro. This synergistic treatment significantly increased the yield of SDFs to 18.
