Background: Although highly prevalent, most perinatal mental health and substance use disorders often go unrecognized, undiagnosed, and untreated. Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs have emerged as a successful model to increase the capacity of front-line maternal health care providers to address perinatal mental health conditions through education, consultation, and increased resources and referrals.

Methods: This model has been adapted in South Carolina to include direct access to mental health treatment in response to inadequate maternity care and mental health services, including a large proportion of rural, Medically Underserved Areas in Primary Care and Mental Health Healthcare Provider Shortage Areas throughout the state.

Existing chemotherapeutic approaches against refractory cancers are ineffective due to off-target effects, inefficient delivery, and inadequate accumulation of anticancer drugs at the tumor site, which causes limited efficiency of drug treatment and toxicity to neighboring healthy cells. The development of nano-based drug delivery systems (DDSs) with the goal of delivering desired therapeutic doses to the diseased cells and has already proven to be a promising strategy to address these challenges. Our study focuses on achieving an efficient tumor-targeted delivery of a combination of drugs for therapeutic benefits by developing a versatile DDS by following a simple one-step chemical approach.

Antimicrobial resistance continues to be a growing threat globally, specifically in health-care settings in which antimicrobial-resistant pathogens cause a substantial proportion of health-care-associated infections (HAIs). Next-generation sequencing (NGS) and the analysis of the data produced therein (ie, bioinformatics) represent an opportunity to enhance our capacity to address these threats. The 3rd Geneva Infection Prevention and Control Think Tank brought together experts to identify gaps, propose solutions, and set priorities for the use of NGS for HAIs and antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.

Background: Prognostic biomarkers at multiple sclerosis (MS) onset to predict disease severity may help guide initial therapy selection for people with MS. Over 20 disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) of varying levels of risk and efficacy now exist. The ability to predict MS severity would help to identify those patients at higher risk where a highly effective, but potentially risky, therapy would be optimal.
