The chromatographic mobility of atriopeptin-28 or of the prohormone is markedly altered by preincubation of the peptides with heparin before separation on reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Protamine prevented the heparin effect and reestablished the original migration pattern of the atrial peptides. The addition of heparin to either rat or human plasma samples did not interfere with the atriopeptin immunoreactivity. The influence of heparin on the biological activity of the atriopeptin-28 in anesthetized rats was also investigated. Infusion of heparin (30 U/min) significantly reduced the dose-dependent fall of blood pressure produced by atriopeptin-28, but did not interfere with the hypotensive effect of nitroglycerin. Similarly, infusion of heparin in volume-expanded rats markedly decreased the diuresis produced by atriopeptin-28 without altering the urine volume excreted in response to furosemide. These data suggest that the highly charged molecule heparin can modify the physical and biological properties of atriopeptins, perhaps by binding to the numerous arginine residues (i.e., 5 arginine residues in atriopeptin-28) in the atriopeptin molecules.

Clinical Approach: A 13-year-old female with Crohn's Disease and May-Thurner anatomy developed extensive deep venous thrombosis of the left lower extremity, complicated by the finding of AFVwI, discovered during the evaluation of a prolonged prothrombin time and a low FV activity. Anticoagulation was initiated with low-molecular-weight heparin followed by a direct oral anticoagulant, rivaroxaban, without any complications.

Background: The aim of this study was to explore the value of heparin-binding protein (HBP) in the early recognition of sepsis coagulopathy (SIC) and the prognosis of sepsis patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for 139 patients with sepsis admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hefei Third People's Hospital from April 2022 through April 2024. Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is a poor prognostic factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, highlighting the need for an oral drug delivery system that combines convenience, simplicity, biosafety, and improved patient compliance. Leveraging the unique anatomy of the portal vein and insights from single-cell RNA sequencing of the PVTT tumor microenvironment, we developed oral pellets using CaCO@PDA nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulating both doxorubicin hydrochloride and low molecular weight heparin. These NPs target the tumor thrombus microenvironment, aiming to break down the thrombus barrier and turn the challenge of portal vein blockage into an advantage by enhancing drug delivery efficiency through oral administration.
