We demonstrate a pre-chirp managed amplification (PCMA) system that is based on two stages of core-pumped, polarization maintaining (PM) fiber amplifiers. It produces output pulses with <65 fs duration and >10 nJ pulse energy from single-mode fibers. Tailoring of the spectra in the amplification chain enables pulse compression to near-perfect transform limited pulses (Strehl-ratio >0.9) and low intensity noise levels (0.008%) despite B-integrals >40 rad in the PCMA amplifier. Design strategies are presented. We expect this PCMA system to become an easy to implement add-on to a variety of existing sources while maintaining the advantages of the robustness of the PM standard fiber format.

In this study, we demonstrated a few-cycle pulse generation system delivering an 8-fs and 13-nJ pulse. The oscillator of this system is a mode-locked fiber laser based on a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM), which is injected into the gain management nonlinear (GMN) amplifier after pre-chirp management by a chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) and a passive fiber. Subsequently, a hollow-core photonic bandgap (HC-PBG) fiber is employed to compensate for the dispersion, achieving a pulse duration of 49.

We demonstrate a pre-chirp and gain jointly managed Yb-fiber laser that drives simultaneous label-free autofluorescence-multiharmonic (SLAM) medical imaging. We show that a gain managed Yb-fiber amplifier produces high-quality compressed pulses when the seeding pulses exhibit proper negative pre-chirp. The resulting laser source can generate 43-MHz, 34-fs pulses centered at 1110 nm with more than 90-nJ energy.

The generation of Cherenkov radiation (CR) is determined by the phase-matching condition, but the experimental observation on the phase change of its transient process is still incomplete. In this paper, we use the dispersive temporal interferometer (DTI) technique to real-time reveal the buildup and evolution of CR. Experiments show that when the pump power varies, the phase-matching conditions also change, which is mainly affected by the nonlinear phase shift caused by the Kerr effect.

An ytterbium-doped, single-stage, double-pass nonlinear fiber amplification system was fabricated for amplifying an 1100-nm mode-locking fiber laser. Pre-chirp managed amplification (PCMA) was applied in realizing the nonlinear amplification process with an all-polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber construction. The system can deliver 19.

We demonstrate, to the best of our knowledge, the first double-pass pre-chirp managed fiber amplifier. The double-pass fiber amplifier exhibits high gain allowing us to amplify chirped picosecond pulses from 20 mW to 113 W in a rod-type Yb-fiber corresponding to 38 dB gain. We study the dependence of static mode degradation (SMD) on the nonlinear phase shift (NPS) accumulated by the amplified pulse.
