Black phosphorus (BP), a promising new two-dimensional (2D) material, has drawn a lot of attentions in academia and industry due to its extraordinary physical and chemical properties. In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate a monolayer BP that achieves coherent perfect absorption (CPA) at the THz/infrared band. It is found that quasi-CPA point does exist at the THz/infrared band. The CPA, which has a relative bandwidth of 141.3% and a coherent absorptivity of more than 90%, can be implemented at the quasi-CPA wavelength through a proper phase modulation. Moreover, the coherent absorptivity can be modulated with a high modulation depth by means of the phase difference between the two coherent counter-propagating beams. The angular selectivity of the monolayer BP is also investigated. The CPA wavelength is divided into two wavelength branches for TE and TM polarization at oblique incidence. In addition, the CPA wavelength can be tuned from THz to infrared band by adjusting the electron doping of the BP while maintaining the modulation depth of 10. Hence, our results may be potentially used for coherent modulations in terahertz/infrared detections and signal processing with 2D materials.

Purpose: The study aimed to assess the reliability of tele-education in training a Malawian ophthalmology resident to interpret optical coherence tomography (OCT) images of patients with macular conditions.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 1000 macula-centered OCT image series from 1000 eyes of 1000 consecutive patients from Malawi, which involved initial interpretation by a German retina specialist (observer 1) (T). Observer 1 then trained a Malawian resident (observer 2) via email, and observer 2 independently interpreted images at T, followed by face-to-face training in Malawi and reinterpretation at T and T (3-month intervals).

Using time as an additional design parameter in electromagnetism, photonics, and wave physics is attracting considerable research interest, motivated by the possibility to explore physical phenomena and engineering opportunities beyond the limits of time-invariant systems. Here, we report the experimental demonstration of enhanced broadband absorption of electromagnetic waves in a continuously modulated time-varying system, exceeding one of the key theoretical limits of linear time-invariant absorbers. This is achieved by harnessing the frequency-wave vector transitions and enhanced interference effects enabled by breaking both continuous space- and time-translation symmetries in a periodically time-modulated absorbing structure operating at radio frequencies.

We demonstrate that in situ coherent diffractive imaging (CDI), which leverages the coherent interference between strong and weak beams to illuminate static and dynamic structures, can serve as a highly dose-efficient imaging method. At low doses, in situ CDI can achieve higher resolution than perfect lenses with the point spread function as a delta function. Both our numerical simulations and experimental results demonstrate that combining in situ CDI with ptychography can reduce the required dose by up to two orders of magnitude compared with ptychography alone.

To face with the challenges of governance in the digital age, such as insufficient coordination between regional governments and low quality and efficiency of government services, China has proposed the Inter-provincial Government Services Policy. The policy is capable of realizing the government's ability to handle service matters for the public in different regions, thus facilitating the regional government's coordination and upgrading the level of government services. This paper collects and organizes the texts of 28 Inter-provincial Government Services policies, and uses ROSTCM6 text mining software to screen and identify the policy text content.

Fast modulation of optical signals that carry multidimensional information in the form of wavelength, phase or polarization has fueled an explosion of interest in integrated photonics. This interest however masks a significant challenge which is that independent modulation of multi-wavelength carrier signals in a single waveguide is not trivial. Such challenge is attributed to the longitudinal direction of guided-mode propagation, limiting the spatial separation and modulation of electric-field.
