Introduction: We aimed to investigate the geographic variation of Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) across different healthcare markets and the impact on surgical outcomes in nearby non-AMCs.
Methods: Patients who underwent major surgery between 2016 and 2021 were identified from the Medicare Standard Analytic Files. Healthcare markets were delineated using Dartmouth Atlas hospital referral regions.
Inflammatory bowel disease is associated with greater odds of complications following posterior lumbar fusion and further amplified for patients exposed to monoclonal antibody biologics.

Background: Posterior lumbar fusion (PLF) is a common spine surgery that may be considered in patients with underlying comorbidities, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Prior literature examining the association of this disease and PLF outcomes was done in the National Inpatient Sample (NIS), which only assessed in-hospital data and did not reveal an elevated risk of medical or surgical complications. However, characterization of PLF outcomes beyond hospital discharge is important and remains unknown for patients with IBD.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is a commonly performed orthopaedic procedure. As the number of ACLRs continues to increase in incidence, understanding the variability and drivers of cost to the health care system may help target cost-saving measures.
Purposes: To examine the variability in overall 90-day reimbursements (amount paid for health care services) for ACLR using a national, multi-insurance, administrative database and to assess factors associated with variability.

Purpose: We have evaluated lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPLND) in combination with rectal resection in the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer in a specialized colorectal surgical department with a focus on safety and feasibility.
Methods: The study analyzed surgical-pathologic outcomes in 17 consecutive patients who underwent robotic LPLND and rectal resection between May 2018 and June 2024 at a high-volume colorectal cancer center in Denmark. Patients were selected for the procedure based on lateral lymph node (LLN) diameter ≥ 8 mm before and ≥ 5 mm after neoadjuvant treatment.
