Under Medicare Part D, senior citizens choose prescription drug insurance offered by numerous private insurers. We examine nonpoor enrollees' actions in 2006 and 2007 using panel data. Our sample reduced overspending by $298 on average, with gains by 81 percent of them. The greatest improvements were by those who overspent most in 2006 and by those who switched plans. Decisions to switch depended on individuals' overspending in 2006 and on individual-specific effects of changes in their current plans. The oldest consumers and those initiating medications for Alzheimer's disease improved by more than average, suggesting that real-world institutions help overcome cognitive limitations.

Fish actively control posture in the pitch axis (nose-up/nose-down) to counter instability and regulate their elevation in the water column. To test the hypothesis that environmental cues shape strategies fish use to control posture, we leveraged a serendipitous finding: larval zebrafish () sink mildly after acute loss of lateral line hair cells. Using long-term (48 h) recordings of unrestrained swimming, we discovered that sinking larvae compensated differently depending on light conditions.

Many copepods display a swim-and-sink behaviour, which is not energetically efficient but probably aids in perceiving and capturing diatom chains. Here, computational fluid dynamics was employed to calculate the mechanical power required by a negatively buoyant, self-propelled copepod in swim-and-sink versus hovering. The results show that upward swim-and-sink about a fixed depth always demands more power than hovering.
