The concept of electronic transmutation (ET) depicts the processes that by acquiring an extra electron, an element with the atomic number Z begins to have properties that were known to only belong to its neighboring element with the atomic number Z+1. Based on ET, signature compounds and chemical bonds that are composed of certain elements can now be designed and formed by other electronically transmutated elements. This Minireview summarizes the recent developments and applications of ET on both the theoretical and experimental fronts. Examples on the ET of Group 13 elements into Group 14 elements, Group 14 elements into Group 15 elements, and Group 15 elements into Group 16 elements are discussed. Compounds and chemical bonding composed of carbon, silicon, germanium, phosphorous, oxygen and sulfur now have analogues using transmutated boron, aluminum, gallium, silicon, nitrogen, and phosphorous.

The NanoPlasmonic Laser Induced Fusion Energy (NAPLIFE) project proposed fusion by regulating the laser light absorption via resonant nanorod antennas implanted into hydrogen rich urethane acrylate methacrylate (UDMA) and triethylene glycol dimethylacrylate (TEGDMA) copolymer targets. In part of the tests, boron-nitride (BN) was added to the polymer. Our experiments with resonant nanoantennas accelerated protons up to 225 keV energy.

The visualization of transparent specimens in traditional light microscopy is impeded by insufficient intrinsic contrast, prompting the development of advanced contrast-enhancement methodologies to transmute minute phase discrepancies into detectable amplitude alterations. While existing methods excel in either phase-contrast imaging (contrast-enhanced image of whole objects) or relief-like imaging (deceptive three-dimensional images), it would be of great significance to seamlessly integrate both capabilities in the same device. Here, we propose a novel metasurface-assisted half-side phase-contrast technique capable of simultaneous phase-contrast and relief-like imaging across the visible spectrum, which is realized by introducing a ±π/2 phase shift to a half-side diffracted wave emitted by the objects.

Laser-driven deuterons generate neutrons with a mean energy of 2.5 MeV, through the H(d,n) fusion reaction in a deuterated polyethylene (dPE) tablet. The deuterium ions are accelerated by 12 fs, 21 mJ laser pulses interacting with a 0.

The production and use of plastics and plastics products has increased dramatically in recent decades. Moreover, their unprotected disposal into ambient life sustaining environment poses a significant health risk. Bisphenol F (BPF) an alternative to bisphenol A (BPA) has been extensively employed for making of plastics.

Electrolysis of DO may be used as a portable neutron source with numerous applications without the complexity of huge reactor operations. Herein, we report reproducible fast neutron generation by electrolysis of DO using palladium cathode and platinum anode, which was detected with diamond detector, gas filled He detectors after thermalisation with high density polythene, as well as novel epoxy resin and CR-39 detectors. Notably, a highly reproducible neutron generation at electrochemical surfaces of palladium electrode was observed and signature transmutation via Pd (d, n) Ag was corroborated.
