A crude methanolic extract of the Indonesian sponge showed a potent cytotoxic activity against the human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells. An investigation of the active components led to the isolation of three new compounds named crambescidins 345 (), 361 (), and 373 (), together with the known related metabolites crambescidins 359 (), 657 (), and 800 (). The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic analysis. These compounds - that possess a simple pentacyclic guanidine core exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against the A431 cells with the IC values of 7.0, 2.5, 0.94, and 3.1 μM, respectively, while the known compounds and that possess a long aliphatic side chain were found to be significantly cytotoxic. On the other hand, in an anti-oomycete activity test against the fungus-like plant pathogen , - showed a higher activity than that of and , suggesting that the long aliphatic side chain plays a significant role for cytotoxicity, but is not effective or suppressive for anti-oomycete activity.

Background: Aerobic vaginitis (AV) is a state of abnormal vaginal microbiota, which is associated with increased numbers of aerobic, enteric bacteria and inflammation of the vaginal epithelium. Anti-microbial treatment combined with anti-inflammatory therapy could be useful in the treatment of this condition. It is known that calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, plays an important role in modulating the immune response in several inflammatory diseases.

However, their use is linked to side effects such as inflammatory and allergic reactions. Dexamethasone (Dexa) is a synthetic glucocorticoid used across allergic reactions which can be useful in preventing the 5-FU side effects.

Yttrium oxide nanoparticles (YONPs) have emerged as a promising avenue for cancer therapy, primarily due to their distinctive properties that facilitate selective targeting of cancer cells. Despite their potential, the therapeutic effects of YONPs on human epidermoid skin cancer remain largely unexplored. This study was thus conducted to investigate the impact of YONPs on both human skin normal and cancer cells, with an emphasis on assessing their cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and the mechanisms underlying these effects.
