Fractures of the tibial spine are estimated to occur in 3 per 100,000 children annually, but account for 2 to 5% of pediatric knee injuries with effusion. Although these fractures were historically associated with bicycle accidents, the surge of organized youth sports in recent decades has brought renewed attention to this injury. While minimally displaced fractures can be treated nonoperatively, several techniques have been described for fixation of displaced or comminuted fractures. Sequelae of this injury can include arthrofibrosis, knee instability, and nonunion. Future collaborative endeavors will aim to further identify risk factors for these complications to optimize the treatment of tibial spine fractures in children.

Postoperative delirium (POD), an acute cognitive dysfunction linked to morbidity and mortality, is characterized by memory impairments and disturbances in consciousness, particularly in patients aged 65 and older. Neuroinflammation and NAD+ imbalance are key mechanisms behind POD, leading to synaptic and cognitive deterioration. However, how surgery contributes to POD and neuroinflammation remains unclear, and effective treatments are lacking.

Background: Implant fixation is often the cornerstone of musculoskeletal surgical procedures performed to provide bony fixation and/or fusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate how different design features and manufacturing methods influence implant osseointegration and mechanical properties associated with fixation in a standardized model in cancellous bone of adult sheep.
Methods: We evaluated the performance of three titanium alloy implants: (A) iFuse-TORQ implant; (B) Fenestrated Sacroiliac Device; and (C) Standard Cancellous Bone Screw in the cancellous bone of the distal femur and proximal tibia in 8 sheep.

Introduction: Giant cell tumour or osteoclastoma is benign, locally aggressive tumor with bone destruction and with malignant potential. It accounts for 5% of all primary bone tumor and occurs in skeletally mature individuals in the age group of 30 to 45 with peak incidence in the 3rd decade. GCT is more common in females.

: A common problem in pediatric orthopedics is leg length discrepancy (LLD). In adulthood, this may result in overload and degenerative changes in the lumbar spine, hip, and knee joints of the longer limb, and the fixed equinus position of the foot of the shorter limb. Surgical treatment using temporary epiphysiodesis with eight-plate implants is a minimally invasive, safe, and patient-tolerated procedure in LLD.

Swimming is a popular sport with several health benefits, but its effects on bone quality are controversial possibly due to distinct effects on different anatomical regions. Our aim was to investigate the effect of 8-month swimming on bone growth, mass, geometry, trabecular microarchitecture and osteocyte density of the lumbar vertebrae, femur and tibia of male rats. Wistar rat models were assigned to either a swimming (n = 10; 2h/d, 5 d/week) or a physically active control group (n = 10) for 8 months, after which they were sacrificed and their lumbar vertebrae, femur and tibia assessed for bone mass, cortical geometry, trabecular microarchitecture and osteocyte density through µ-CT and histology.
