Background And Objectives: Frequently aberrant expression of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and cytokeratin 19 (CK19) have been observed in several human cancers. In this retrospective study, we aimed at investigating the prognostic significance of CK7 and CK19 in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).

Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed to assess CK7 and CK19 expression on tissue microarrays in training cohort enrolling 214 ICC patients and validation cohort comprising 108 ICC patients. Kaplan-Meier analysis, Cox's proportional hazards regression, and nomogram were applied to evaluate the prognostic significance of both CKs.

Results: Both CK7 and CK19 expression were significantly up-regulated in ICC compared to their non-tumor counterparts, and positively correlated with aggressive tumor phenotypes, like lymph node metastasis and larger tumor size. Furthermore, high expression of either CK7 or CK19 predicted a significantly dismal postoperative survival. Integrated analysis of CK7 and CK19 expression was identified as a better indicator for survival probability. Notably, the nomogram integrating CK7/CK19 index had a perfect prognostic performance as compared with current staging systems. The results were further confirmed in the validation cohort.

Conclusions: CK7/CK19 index was an independent adverse prognostic factor for ICC patients' survival, and may be helpful to improve postoperative risk stratification and individualized treatment strategies.

To date, pagetoid spread-the proliferation of pagetoid cells in intraepidermal lesions, as observed in secondary extramammary Paget's disease-has not been reported in squamous epithelium derived from the extension of head and neck carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pagetoid squamous cell proliferation associated with a primary intraosseous carcinoma (PIOC) arising in the periapical lesion of the maxilla, a finding not reported previously. A 60-year-old man presented with prostate adenocarcinoma and bilateral pubic bone, ilium bone, and sacral bone metastases.

To investigate the combined application of cytology, cell block histology and immunohistochemistry to improve the diagnostic accuracy of solid pancreatic lesions in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) samples. The pathological data of EUS-FNA in 311 cases of solid pancreatic lesions submitted to the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, China from May 2019 to September 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The cases included pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC, 172 cases), solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN, 12 cases), neuroendocrine tumors (PNET, 14 cases) and chronic pancreatitis (113 cases).

Aims: Esophageal submucosal gland duct adenoma is an extremely rare benign tumour, with only a few reported cases. We conducted the largest single-centre clinical study of esophageal submucosal gland duct adenoma, examining its molecular mechanisms and clinicopathological features.

Methods And Results: Between 2018 and 2023, seven cases of esophageal submucosal gland duct adenoma were identified at a tertiary medical centre; two were female and five were male, aged between 51 and 75 years (mean = 63.

Background: The incidence of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) mediated by human papilloma virus (HPV) has been steadily increasing worldwide. The specific pathogenesis of HPV-mediated head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) usually induces carcinogenesis in the oropharynx and the roles of CK7, CK19 and p16 in the carcinogenesis mechanism of HPV-mediated OPSCC still remain uncertain.

Methods: We collected case data and paraffin samples of 69 cases of OPSCC and 40 cases of OSCC from July 2009 to December 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how the Fuzheng huayu formula (FZHY) affects biliary fibrosis in mice by comparing its effects with obeticholic acid (OCA) and a control group.
  • Mice were treated with specific drugs over a 12-week period, and various liver health indicators, including serum enzyme levels and tissue markers, were analyzed using multiple biochemical techniques.
  • Results demonstrated that both FZHY and OCA effectively reduced the harmful effects of fibrosis in the gene knockout mice by reversing elevated liver indicators, improving markers of liver function, and influencing specific molecular pathways related to inflammation and cellular response.
