Structural basis for the synergetic neutralization of hepatitis E virus by antibody-antibody interaction.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Vaccines for Infectious Diseases, Xiang An Biomedicine Laboratory, Department of Laboratory Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Life Sciences, Xiamen University, Xiamen 361102, China.

Neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) play a crucial role in virology, antibody drug development, and vaccine research. In this study, we investigated the synergistic effect of two hepatitis E virus (HEV) nAbs, 8H3, and 8C11, which have exhibited enhanced neutralizing activity in a rhesus monkey model. We presented crystal structures of 8H3 Fab alone and a triple complex of 8C11 Fab and 8H3 Fab simultaneously binding to the HEV E2s protein (8C11:E2s:8H3).

Domestic Cat Hepadnavirus and Pathogenic Retroviruses; A Sero-Molecular Survey of Cats in Santiago, Chile.

Viruses

December 2023

Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

Cat ownership is common in Chile, but data on the regional prevalence of infectious agents are limited. A sero-molecular survey of 120 client- or shelter-owned domestic cats in greater Santiago was performed. Whole blood DNA was tested for the novel hepatitis-B-like virus, domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH) by conventional PCR (cPCR) and quantitative PCR (qPCR), and for feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) by qPCR.

January 2024

National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases, Key Laboratory of Diabetes Immunology (Ministry of Education), Metabolic Syndrome Research Center, Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Changsha, China. Electronic address:

Aims: This study aims to investigate the interplay between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and major forms of diabetes: type 1 diabetes (T1D), type 2 diabetes (T2D), and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA).

Methods: This multicenter study analyzed a cohort of 2699 diabetic and 7344 non-diabetic subjects who visited medical centers in China from 2014 to 2021. T1D, T2D, LADA, and HCV were diagnosed using standard procedures.

Pan-cancer mutational signature surveys correlated mutational signature with geospatial environmental exposures and viral infections.

Comput Struct Biotechnol J

October 2023

Department of Public Health and Sciences, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami, FL 33136, USA.

Background: Cancer has been disproportionally affecting minorities. Genomic-based cancer disparity analyses have been less common than conventional epidemiological studies. In the past decade, mutational signatures have been established as characteristic footprints of endogenous or exogenous carcinogens.

Objective: To estimate cost savings after implementation of customized electronic duplicate order alerts.

Design: Alerts were implemented for microbiology tests at the largest public hospital in Victoria, Australia. These alerts were designed to pop up at the point of test ordering to inform the clinician that the test had previously been ordered and to suggest appropriate reordering time frames and indications.
