Early diagnosis of pregnancy- and lactation-associated osteoporosis (PLO) is mandatory for a good outcome. Standard care is not a matter of conventional guidelines, rather it requires an individualized strategy while true overall incidence and pathogeny remain open issues. This is a narrative review based on full-length English articles, published between January 2021 and March 2023 and accessed via PubMed (no traumatic fractures or secondary osteoporosis are included).

Background: No study has revealed the effectiveness of long-term tocolysis for patients diagnosed with threatened preterm birth, and the use of betamimetics in these patients has not been recommended in the United States or Europe because of the potential for severe maternal adverse effects. However, long-term tocolysis with intravenous infusion of ritodrine hydrochloride, a betamimetic, can be selected as the first-line tocolytic treatment in Japan. This study was performed to (i) examine the current status of long-term tocolytic treatment, particularly with intravenous infusion of betamimetics, for threatened preterm birth in Japan and (ii) clarify the association between long-term tocolytic treatment and maternal adverse effects.

Introduction: It can be observed that there is an increase in the methamphetamine (MA) consumption in Saxony (Federal Republic of Germany). There is so far no data available in German speaking countries about the risk of MA consumption in pregnancy or delivery.
Methods: The data from all pregnant women who were examined or delivered at the Clinic for Obstetrics and Gynaecology between 2010-2015 were retrospectively searched for MA consumption.
