Background: Prostate cancer treatment involves hormonal therapies that may carry cardiovascular risks, particularly for long-term use. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists, such as degarelix, may offer advantages over agonists, but comprehensive comparative cardiovascular outcomes are not well established. This study aimed to systematically review and analyze the cardiovascular safety profiles of degarelix compared to those of traditional GnRH agonists, providing critical insights for optimizing treatment strategies.

Unfolded protein response modulates Tyrosinase levels and melanin production during melanogenesis.

J Dermatol Sci

January 2025

Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Biomedical & Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, Hiroshima, Japan; Department of Frontier Science and Interdisciplinary Research, Faculty of Medicine, Kanazawa University, Ishikawa, Japan. Electronic address:

Background: Melanocytes protect the body from ultraviolet radiation by synthesizing melanin. Tyrosinase, a key enzyme in melanin production, accumulates in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) during melanin synthesis, potentially causing ER stress. However, regulating ER function for melanin synthesis has been less studied than controlling Tyrosinase activity.

Visceral fat distribution: Interracial studies.

January 2025

Department of Genetics, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Jilin University, Changchun, China. Electronic address:

Visceral adipose tissue, a type of abdominal adipose tissue, is highly involved in lipolysis. Because increased visceral adiposity is strongly associated with the metabolic complications related with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, there is a need for precise, targeted, personalized and site-specific measures clinically. Existing studies showed that ectopic fat accumulation may be characterized differently among different populations due to complex genetic architecture and non-genetic or epigenetic components, ie, Asians have more and Africans have less visceral fat vs Europeans.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Industrial Fermentation Microbiology, Ministry of Education, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Industrial Microbiology, College of Biotechnology, Tianjin University of Science & Technology, Tianjin 300457, China. Electronic address:

11α-Hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione (11α-OH AD) is an essential steroid hormone drug intermediate that exhibits low biotransformation efficiency. In this study, a mixed-strain fermentation strategy was established for the efficient production of 11α-OH AD from phytosterols (PS). Initially, strains were screened for efficient transformation of AD to produce 11α-OH AD.
