We compare the way that relationships for diffusion constants scale with the size of diffusing membrane domains and the geometry of their environments. Then, we review our experimental work on the dynamics of dissolution/growth of membrane domains in crowding induced mixing, phase separation, and Ostwald ripening in a highly confined environment. Overall, the scaling relationships applied to diffusion constants obtained by fits to our dynamic data indicate that dissolution and growth is influenced by the diffusion of clusters or small domains of lipids, in addition to kinetic processes and geometrical constraints.

The emergence of green chemistry and engineering principles to enforce sustainability aspects has ensured the prevalence of green solvents and green processes. Our study addresses this quest by exploring drug delivery applications of hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) which are alternative green solvents. Initially, this work showcases the hydrophobic drug solubilization capabilities of a natural hydrophobic DES, menthol, and decanoic acid.

Silicon (Si) is considered a promising anode material for next-generation lithium-ion batteries due to its high theoretical specific capacity and earth-abundancy. However, challenges such as significant volume expansion, unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation in incompatible electrolytes, and slow lithium-ion transport lead to its poor cycling and rate performance. In this work, it is demonstrated that superior cyclability and rate capability of Si anodes can be achieved using ethyl fluoroacetate (EFA) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) solvents with low binding energy with Li but with sufficiently high relative dielectric constants.

The search for new anode materials with high lithium-ion battery (LIB) capacity has attracted considerable attention due to the increasing need for electrical power. Here, we utilized first-principles calculations to develop a honeycomb-structured BCN monolayer, which exhibits an ultra-high Li-ion storage capacity of 2244 mA h g as an anode material for LIBs. Furthermore, the calculations show that the BCN monolayer has a comparatively small diffusion barrier of 0.

Molecular oxygen (O) is essential for life, and continuous effort has been made to understand its pathways in cellular respiration with all-atom (AA) molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of, e.g., membrane permeation or binding to proteins.

This paper presents a grid-based approach to model molecular association processes as an alternative to sampling-based Markov models. Our method discretizes the six-dimensional space of relative translation and orientation into grid cells. By discretizing the Fokker-Planck operator governing the system dynamics via the square-root approximation, we derive analytical expressions for the transition rate constants between grid cells.
