Six undescribed alkaloids, indiforine A-F, together with four known ones, were isolated from the leaves of Isatis indigotica Fortune. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. The absolute configurations of indiforine A and B were determined by comparison of the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra, as well as experimental and calculated optical rotations. The isolated alkaloids were evaluated for their neuroprotective activities against HO-induced cell injury in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. The results showed that in HO-induced SH-SY5Y cell injury models, indiforine A and B exhibited potent neuroprotective activities. Further investigation of the most potent indiforine A by Hoechst 33258 staining and Annexin V/PI analysis demonstrated that it could protect SH-SY5Y cells from oxidative damage through inhibiting cell apoptosis.

Purpose: Natural plant raw materials, previously underestimated in therapeutics, are becoming the subject of research for new applications in medicine. In our research, the hydroalcoholic extract of Isatis tinctoria leaf, rich in flavonoid compounds such as vicenin-2 and quercetin, was examined as a potential antidiabetic and neuroprotective agent.

Methods: The effect of the extract and its main flavonoid compounds on protein glycation, alpha-glucosidase activity, and acetylcholinesterase activity was tested.

The AGL6 (AGMOUSE LIKE 6) gene is a member of the SEP subfamily and functions as an E-class floral homeotic gene in the development of floral organs. In this study, we cloned IiAGL6, the orthologous gene of AGL6 in Isatis indigotica. The constitutive expression of IiAGL6 in Arabidopsis thaliana resulted in a late-flowering phenotype and the development of curly leaves during the vegetative growth period.

Introduction: In traditional Chinese medicine, the rhizome of (Baizhu), the leaves of (Daqingye), and the flowers of (Hehuanhua) have been used to treat gastrointestinal illnesses, epidemics, and mental health issues. Modern researchers are now exploring the underlying mechanisms responsible for their efficacy. Previous studies often focused on the impact of purified chemicals or mixed extracts from these plants on cells in tissue culture or in rodent models.
