The present study aims to assess how the processing of basic visual perceptual (VP) components (length, surface, orientation, and position) develops in typically developing (TD) children (n = 215, 4-14 years old) and adults (n = 20, 20-25 years old), and in children with cerebral palsy (CP) (n = 86, 5-14 years old) using the first four subtests of the Battery for the Evaluation of Visual Perceptual and Spatial processing in children. Experiment 1 showed that these four basic VP processes follow distinct developmental trajectories in typical development. Experiment 2 revealed that children with CP present global and persistent deficits for the processing of basic VP components when compared with TD children matched on chronological age and nonverbal reasoning abilities.

Age-related sensory declines are unavoidable and closely linked to decreased visual, auditory, and cognitive functions. However, the interrelations of these declines remain poorly understood. Despite extensive studies in each domain, shared age-related characteristics are complex and may not consistently manifest direct relationships at the individual level.

Background: This study explored the potential of electrogastrography (EGG) and heart rate variability (HRV) as psychophysiological markers in experimental pain research related to the gut-brain axis. We investigated responses to the experience of pain from the visceral (rectal distension) and somatic (cutaneous heat) pain modalities, with a focus on elucidating sex differences in EGG and HRV responses.
Methods: In a sample of healthy volunteers (29 males, 43 females), EGG and ECG data were collected during a baseline and a pain phase.

When we encounter an unfamiliar word in a sentence, word order can be used to determine the grammatical category to which that word belongs and clarify ambiguity. However, it is unclear whether a similar categorization effect occurs in nonlinguistic contexts. We created three perceptually distinct categories of shape stimuli-rounded (A); squared (B); pointed (C).

Background: Previous research has shown that temporal prediction processes are associated with phase resets of low-frequency delta oscillations in a network of parietal, sensory and frontal areas during non-rhythmic sensory stimulation. Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) modulates perceptually relevant brain oscillations in a frequency and phase-specific manner, allowing the assessment of their functional qualities in certain cognitive functions like temporal prediction.
Objective: We addressed the relation between oscillatory activity and temporal prediction by using tACS to manipulate brain activity in a sinusoidal manner.

Introduction: Multisensory integration (MSI) enhances perception by combining information from different sensory modalities. In schizophrenia, individuals often exhibit impaired audiovisual processing, resulting in broader temporal binding windows (TBWs) which appear to be associated with symptom severity. Since the underlying mechanisms of these aberrations are not yet fully understood, the present study aims to investigate multisensory processing in schizophrenia in more detail.
