Mitral valve stenosis (MS) associated with rheumatic disease no longer represents a major heart problem during the perinatal period in Japan. Here we present a case of acute heart failure due to MS after emergency cesarean section (CS). The patient was transferred due to the development of fetal distress at 36 weeks gestation and underwent an emergency CS under general anesthesia. She developed acute heart failure immediately postoperatively and was diagnosed with MS associated with pulmonary artery hypertension for the first time. She underwent percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy and was discharged from our hospital in good condition.

Emergency cesarean section is associated with the development of postpartum depression. Esketamine has been demonstrated to have a rapid onset of antidepressant effects. Randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses have demonstrated the efficacy of esketamine in preventing postpartum depression after cessarean section.

Background: On the second day of my clinical observership in the Obgyn Department of the Vienna University Hospital, I saw a suspected case of caesarean scar pregnancy on follow-up, with one of my very senior professors, in the gynaecology outpatient clinic.

Methods: The 29-year-old multigravida with a previous caesarean section had earlier presented to the emergency room with vaginal bleeding at 7 weeks of gestation.

Results: Ultrasound scan revealed a non-viable low-lying gestational sac located near the caesarean section scar, with a myometrial thickness of 0.

Predictive analytics has emerged as a promising approach for improving reproductive health care and patient outcomes. During pregnancy and birth, the ability to accurately predict risks and complications could enable earlier interventions and reduce adverse events. However, there are challenges and ethical considerations for implementing predictive models in perinatal care settings.

[Foetal paraspinal neuroblastoma: A case report of autopsy findings].

Ann Pathol

Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology, University of Bern, 3008 Bern, Suisse.

Neuroblastoma is a rare tumour originating from neural crest cells, primarily occurring in the adrenal glands and sympathetic ganglia, with prenatal diagnosis often complicated by the difficulty in distinguishing it from other foetal abdominal or paraspinal masses. We present a case of foetal neuroblastoma in a 26-year old woman who, at 36 weeks of gestation, experienced absent foetal movements, leading to ultrasound confirmation of foetal demise with associated effusions. An emergency caesarean section revealed a stillborn male foetus with a previously undetected encapsulated mass in the posterior mediastinum, which was confirmed as neuroblastoma through histopathological analysis.

Spontaneous hepatic rupture is a rare complication that occurs in pregnant mothers with HELLP syndrome, or preeclampsia with severe features, or eclampsia. The most common symptom of hepatic rupture/hematoma is right upper quadrant pain or epigastric pain, which is similar to the presentation of preeclampsia with severe features. Therefore, the absence of specific signs and symptoms leads to a diagnostic dilemma and a delay in management.
