The aim of the study was to develop an alternative capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) for simultaneous determination of phillyrin (), phillygenin (), epipinoresinol-4--β-glucoside (), pinoresinol-4--β-glucoside (), lariciresinol (), pinoresinol (), isolariciresinol () and vladinol D () in . The structural types of lignans - could be attributed to bisepoxylignans (- and ), monoepoxylignans ( and ) and cyclolignan (). The major difficulties in the CZE separation of - could be summarization as the simultaneous presence of free lignans (, and -) and lignan glucosides ( and ) and simultaneous occurrence of two pairs of isomers ( and as well as and ). Without the addition of β-CD and methanol, the resolution of these analytes was quite poor. However, in this study, compounds - were excellently separated from each other within 15 min under optimized conditions with a borax running buffer (40 mM borax, pH 10.30) containing 2 mM β-CD and 5% methanol (/) at the voltage of 20 kV, temperature of 35 °C and detection wavelength of 234 nm. Validation of the method included tests of linearity, precision, repeatability, stability and accuracy. In addition, the method offered inherent advantages such as lower analytical cost, no need of specific columns and use of small amounts of organic solvents and reagents. Finally, this green and economic CZE was successfully applied for the determination of these bioactive components - in fruits and its commercial extracts.

Purpose: To quantitatively explore preretinal abnormal tissue (PAT) in macula-on rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) before and after surgery.

Methods: In this case-series study, PAT was detected by en-face optical coherence tomography images with custom slabs in eyes that underwent pars plana vitrectomy and SF6 for macula-on RRD.Main outcome measures were PAT area at baseline, 3-month and 6-month follow-up, and its relative change.

Purpose: To assess the colocalization of ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption with nonperfusion in choriocapillaris (CC), retinal superficial capillary plexus (SCP), and deep capillary plexus (DCP) in diabetic patients using en face optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA).

Methods: Macular OCT and OCTA scans (3 × 3 mm) of 41 patients with diabetic retinopathy were obtained using an RTVue XR Avanti instrument. After correcting the shadow artifacts, EZ integrity was assessed in the en face OCT slab using the Gaussian mixture model clustering method compared with the corresponding EZ en face OCT of 11 age-matched normal patients.

Detection of Retinal and Choriocapillaris Microvascular Changes in Retinal Vein Occlusion and Fellow Eyes by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Ophthalmol Ther

Department of Ophthalmology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, No.1 Shuaifuyuan, Wangfujing, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 100730, China.

Introduction: This study aims to summarize the retinal and choroidal microvascular features detected by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in the affected and fellow eyes of patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Methods: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Embase, and Ovid databases was conducted to identify studies comparing OCTA metrics among RVO, RVO-fellow, and control eyes. Outcomes of interest included parameters related to foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and fovea- and optic nerve head (ONH)-centered perfusion measurements of superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), and choriocapillaris layer.

Purpose: To evaluate retinal vascular changes by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 21 patients who were diagnosed with MIS-C and had a history of hospitalization, 20 pediatric outpatients with a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis, and 26 healthy children. All patients underwent a detailed ophthalmologic examination and OCTA.

A dysregulated metabolism has been studied as a key aspect of the COVID-19 pathophysiology, but its longitudinal progression in severe cases remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate metabolic dysregulation over time in patients with severe COVID-19 requiring mechanical ventilation (MV). In this single-center, prospective, observational study, we obtained 236 serum samples from 118 adult patients on MV in an ICU.
