Organic compounds designed to serve as stable dendrimer cores were developed. A series of aminosugar and amino polyol containing G0 dendrimers were synthesized. The reaction mixture composition was checked by MALDI TOF mass spectrometry, while that of purified products - by H and C NMR combined with 2D NMR spectroscopy as well as MALDI TOF MSMS mass spectra. Mass spectrometric fragmentation experiments were performed in positive ion mode in order to determine common fragmentation patterns of [M+H] ions.

Cockroaches could play a role in the transmission dynamics of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (ARB) at variable interfaces in Ugandan communities, acting as both reservoirs and vectors. This study investigated the burden and diversity of ARB carried by cockroaches in human settlements in Uganda, so as to understand their role in the spread of these pathogens and their potential as sentinels in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance programs. A retrospective analysis was conducted on two unpublished studies by Makerere University students.

With the increasing FDA approvals of glycoprotein-based biotherapeutics including monoclonal antibodies, cytokines, and enzyme treatments, the significance of glycosylation in modulating drug efficacy and safety becomes central. This review highlights the crucial role of mass spectrometry (MS) in elucidating the glycome of biotherapeutics that feature N- and O-glycosylation, directly addressing the challenges posed by glycosylation complexity and heterogeneity. We have detailed the advancements and application of MS technologies including MALDI-TOF MS, LC-MS, and tandem MS in the precise characterization of glycoprotein therapeutics.

, a slow-growing nontuberculous mycobacterium, causes Buruli ulcer, a neglected tropical disease. Distinguishing from related species, including , poses challenges with respect to making accurate identifications. In this study, we developed a rapid and simple identification method based on mycobacterial lipid profiles and used matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) to analyze the lipid profiles of ( = 35) and ( = 19) isolates.

Background: Beta-lactams remain the first-line treatment of infections despite the increasing global prevalence of penicillin-resistant/non-susceptible strains. We conducted a cross-sectional household survey in a rural community in northern Vietnam in 2018-2019 to provide prevalence estimates of penicillin non-susceptible (PNSP) carriage and to investigate behavioural and environmental factors associated with PNSP colonization. The data presented will inform the design of a large trial of population-based interventions targeting inappropriate antibiotic use.

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is a well-known technique for polymer analysis, particularly for determining the molecular weight and structural details of dendrimers. In this study, we evaluated the performance of various matrices, such as 2',4',6'-trihydroxyacetophenone (THAP), α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (HCCA), and sinapinic acid (SA), and their combinations, on the sensitivity and resolution of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers of different generations (G3.0, G4.
