To identify Cladosporium-like isolates associated with marine algae, phylogenetic analyses were conducted using a combined data set of the nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS), 28S gene, and partial RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2). These isolates were confirmed as belonging to Neodevriesia (Neodevriesiaceae), a genus recently segregated from Cladosporium. Two new species, Neodevriesia cladophorae and N. grateloupiae, are described on the basis of morphological and phylogenetic distinctions, and this is the first report of Neodevriesia species from the marine environment. Devriesia fici, D. fraserae, and D. sardiniae are transferred to Neodevriesia based on the phylogenetic affinities and morphological characters of their ex-type specimens.

In this 9-year manipulative field experiment, we examined the impacts of experimental warming (2 °C, W), rainfall reduction (30 % decrease in annual rainfall, RR), and their combination (W + RR) on soil microbial communities and native vegetation in a semi-arid shrubland in south-eastern Spain. Warming had strong negative effects on plant performance across five coexisting native shrub species, consistently reducing their aboveground biomass growth and long-term survival. The impacts of rainfall reduction on plant growth and survival were species-specific and more variable.

Rock-inhabiting fungi (RIF) are usually extremely tolerant or extremophilic, as they can survive on natural and artificial rocks despite being exposed to stressful conditions. RIF have serious negative effects on the appearance and cohesion of rocky substrates, causing the alteration and decomposition of building materials, but also on human and animal health, as they can act as opportunistic pathogens. Their identification is therefore of great importance, especially in urban areas.

Sloths have dense fur on which insects, algae, bacteria and fungi coexist. Previous studies using cultivation-dependent methods and 18S rRNA sequencing revealed that the fungal communities in their furs comprise members of the phyla Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. In this note, we increase the resolution and knowledge of the mycobiome inhabiting the fur of the two- () and three-toed () sloths.

Fungal species members of the genus have been known to occur in marine environments. This report documents the first record of the fungal genus isolated from scleractinian corals. Three isolated strains were identified from a phylogenetic tree that was constructed, based on the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer and partial large subunit (ITS + LSU) DNA sequences.
