A method for evaluating reactive postischemic hyperemia on the skin using the laser Doppler velocimeter is described. The study was conducted on healthy subjects and on patients affected by chronic occlusive arterial disease of the lower limbs at the second clinical stage. The laser Doppler probe is applied to the pulp of the hallux and the inflatable cuff is used for the transient occlusion of arteries both around the thigh and around the ankle. The data obtained are significant for differences between patients and controls and suggest that the cutaneous postischemic hyperemia test is of diagnostic value. The test may be used both for screening and in the follow-up of the peripheral occlusive arterial disease.

Objective: The aim of this work was to evaluate the reliability of power Doppler ultrasound (PD-US) measurements made without contrast enhancement to monitor temporal changes in peripheral blood perfusion.
Methods: On the basis of pre-clinical rodent studies, we found that combinations of spatial registration and clutter filtering techniques applied to PD-US signals reproducibly tracked blood perfusion in skeletal muscle. Perfusion is monitored while modulating hindlimb blood flow.

A substantial proportion of acute stroke patients fail to recover following successful endovascular therapy (EVT) and injury to the brain and vasculature secondary to reperfusion may be a contributor. Acute stroke patients were included with: i) large vessel occlusion of the anterior circulation, ii) successful recanalization, and iii) evaluable MRI early after EVT. Presence of hyperemia on MRI perfusion was assessed by consensus using a modified ASPECTS.

Chronic alcohol consumption dose-dependently affects the incidence and prognosis of ischemic stroke. We determined the influence of chronic alcohol consumption on cerebral angiogenesis under physiological conditions and following ischemic stroke. In studies, acute exposure to low-concentration ethanol significantly increased angiogenic capability and upregulated vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) in C57BL/6J mouse brain microvascular endothelial cells (MBMVECs).
