Introduction: We describe a new nerve conduction study technique with reference values for the 3 branches of the supraclavicular nerve (SCN) in young healthy subjects and application of it in 2 patients.
Methods: The recording electrode was placed on the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, 6-7 cm from the sternoclavicular joint. SCN branches were stimulated below the clavicle, 2.5, 7, and 10.5 cm lateral to the sternoclavicular joint.
Results: Twenty healthy volunteers (10 men), 19-38 years, mean 25.9 years (SD 6.3), and 2 patients with SCN lesions were studied. The mean conduction velocities of the SCN branches were 70-78 m/s (SD 8-10 m/s), and amplitudes 3-4 µV (SD 0.9-2.0 µV). There were no side-to-side or gender differences.
Discussion: The 3 SCN branches could be studied in all subjects. We provide reference values for young subjects. This new method was useful in verifying SCN lesions in 2 patients. Muscle Nerve 58: 300-303, 2018.

The soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines) is the most yield-limiting pathogen in soybeans worldwide. Using chemical pesticides to control this disease is harmful to human and environment. It is urgent to develop environment-friendly nematicides.

Background: Preoperative vascular embolization is an effective strategy for managing meningiomas, neck paragangliomas, renal cell carcinomas, and bone metastasis by reducing the intraoperative bleeding volume and operation time. Although hypervascular tumors also occur in the pancreas, preoperative embolization for these tumors is not commonly practiced. We herein present a case of a giant serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) of the pancreas with significant arterial vascularity that was managed with preoperative interventional radiology and subsequently resected via pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Pancreatic cystic lesions represent a challenging heterogeneous entity with a potential risk of malignant transformation. The diagnostics include in particular medical history taking with collection of relevant clinical information and high-resolution imaging, preferably using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and/or endoscopic ultrasonography. A differentiation between different cystic entities and identification of risk factors are crucial for making appropriate treatment decisions.

Mixed-halide CsPb(Br/Cl) perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have attracted extensive attention in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), but their low photoluminescent efficiency and especially poor stability impede their practical applications. Here, we employ bifunctional didodecyldimethylammonium thiocyanide (DDASCN) with a pseudohalogen SCN and branched DDA to obtain blue-emitting CsPbBrCl PeQDs. DDASCN significantly boosts the photoluminescence quantum yield to 92% by inhibiting nonradiative recombination.

The soybean cyst nematode (SCN; ) facilitates infection by secreting a repertoire of effector proteins into host cells to establish a permanent feeding site composed of a syncytium of root cells. Among the diverse proteins secreted by the nematode, we were specifically interested in identifying proteases to pursue our goal of engineering decoy substrates that elicit an immune response when cleaved by an SCN protease. We identified a cysteine protease that we named Cysteine Protease 1 (CPR1), which was predicted to be a secreted effector based on transcriptomic data obtained from SCN esophageal gland cells, the presence of a signal peptide, and the lack of transmembrane domains.
