Gynecologic surgery offers unique challenges, as pelvic surgery places patients at an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Prevention of VTE is a goal of patients, policy makers, and surgeons. In this review, we address the current research and recommendations for VTE prophylaxis.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a significant complication following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA). Aspirin has gained attention as a cost-effective, safe alternative to traditional anticoagulants like enoxaparin, but comparative data on efficacy and safety remain limited.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy of aspirin and enoxaparin in preventing VTE following TKA and THA.

Gallbladder adenocarcinoma has a high mortality rate, with approximately 1.7% cancer-related deaths worldwide. Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), can significantly increase the risk of mortality within cancer patients, especially in pancreatic, brain, and intra-abdominal cancers, as well as in advanced and metastatic cancers.

Introduction: Low rates of venous thromboembolism (VTE) have been found in patients with isolated orthopaedic trauma below the knee. Many surgeons routinely provide chemical thromboprophylaxis in these injuries, however. This is not without inherent risks, and this remains a controversial topic in perioperative care in orthopaedic trauma.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is still a major challenge after major orthopaedic surgery, including total knee replacement (TKR). The aim of this study was to estimate the risk of VTE with aspirin-only pharmacologic prophylaxis following primary TKR surgery versus direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC). The study included 476 patients who underwent primary TKR from 2016 to 2020.

Quantitative fibrinogen disorders, including afibrinogenemia and hypofibrinogenemia, are defined by the complete absence or reduction of fibrinogen, respectively. The diagnosis is based on the measurement of fibrinogen activity and antigen levels, which define the severity of this monogenic disorder. Afibrinogenemia is the result of homozygosity or combined heterozygosity for the causative mutations, whereas monoallelic mutations lead to hypofibrinogenemia.
