The current state of global biodiversity is confronted with escalating threats arising from human-induced environmental changes and a growing array of unpredictable challenges. However, effective conservation efforts are often hindered by limited knowledge, especially in developing economies such as the Philippines. The limitations imposed by these shortfalls in biodiversity knowledge hamper the capacity to protect biodiversity in light of the continuing extinction crisis.

The heritable condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare but potentially devastating and life-threatening condition that is characterized primarily by cutaneous fragility, manifested when the dermis and epidermis fail to adhere properly. EB has no cure, and because of its rarity, few healthcare professionals have experience in treating it. Most families with an EB child are forced to rely on family caregiving which can be disruptive to family routines but, more importantly, place enormous time and emotional and financial burdens on the family.

Multifunction superhydrophobic coatings that facilitate water harvesting are attractive for addressing the daunting water crisis, yet, they are caught in a double bind when their durability is considered, as durable coatings will require both tough micro-textures to survive concentrated stress and high-surface-energy chemistry to form chemical bonds within the matrix. To date, a universal bulk-phase coating that combines multifunctionality, ultra-durability, and fabrication feasibility remains challenging. Here, a binary cooperative cell design is reported that can solve the contradiction between the multifunctionality and durability requirements of superhydrophobic coatings.

Melanoma is a malignant cancer type which develops when DNA damage occurs (mainly due to environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays). Often, melanoma results in intense and aggressive cell growth that, if not caught in time, can bring one toward death. Thus, early identification at the initial stage is fundamental to stopping the spread of cancer.

Background: Garfish, (Belone belone) is a migratory pelagic fish that inhabits the waters of coastal Europe, North Africa, the North Sea, the Mediterranean Sea. Little information about garfish has been disseminated mainly because of its low abundance and its brief occurrence in various water bodies. Data is lacking on mercury compounds, particularly dangerous the toxic organic form of methylmercury (MeHg), which endangers the health of fish and their consumers.
