Three new diterpenoids, spiroscutelones A-C (1-3), along with known diterpene 4, were isolated from the leaves of Plectranthus scutellarioides. Their structures were established based on extensive spectroscopic analyses, including MS and NMR spectroscopy. Spiroscutelone A (1) represents the first example of an abietane-type terpenoid skeleton with a cyclobutane moiety linking the B and C rings. Of compounds 1-4, spiroscutelone B (2) exhibited the most potent cytotoxicities against the three tested human cancer lines [breast (MCF-7), pancreatic (PSN-1), and cervical (HeLa)] with IC values ranging from 17.9 μM to 29.8 μM and low cytotoxicity against a lung fibroblast (WI-38) normal cell line.

In October 2009, necrotic bark lesions at the root collar and lower stem associated with root rot, reduced growth, and wilting were observed on container-grown 2-year-old common sage ( L. 'Icterina') in two ornamental nurseries in Somogy and Zala counties in Hungary. The disease occurred at a frequency of 15-20% (100 to 150 symptomatic plants in each nursery).

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, remains a significant global health challenge, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. At the same time, the prevalence of toxoplasmosis has been reported to be 30% worldwide. Traditional medicines have long played a vital role in discovering and developing novel drugs, and this approach is essential in the face of increasing resistance to current antimalarial and anti-Toxoplasma drugs.

The innovation of this study was to develop a novel biodegradable intelligent packaging based on chitosan/fucoidan combined with different amounts (1, 3 and 5 wt% on chitosan basis) of coleus grass (Plectranthus scutellarioides) leaves anthocyanins (CGL) to monitor the spoilage of salmon (Salmo salar L.). The addition of fucoidan improved the barrier and mechanical properties of the chitosan films (CS) due to hydrogen bonds and intermolecular electrostatic interactions.
