Phytochemical investigation of the 95% ethanol extract of the whole plant of Palhinhaea cernua afforded five new serratene-type triterpenoids (1-5) together with four known analogues (6-9). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and X-ray crystallographic data. Compounds 1-3 triggered apoptosis of Hela cell with EC values of 3.49 ± 0.05, 0.28 ± 0.13 and 7.98 ± 0.03 μM, respectively.

A preliminary phytochemical investigation on the MeOH extract of the twigs and needles of Pseudotsuga gaussenii (a 'vulnerable' plant endemic to China) led to the isolation and characterization of 25 structurally diverse mono- and dimeric triterpenoids. 19 of them are previously undescribed, including eight cucurbitane-type triterpenoids (gaussenols A-H, 1-8, resp.), one serratene-type triterpene (gaussenol I, 9), and 10 triterpenic dimers (gaussenols J-S, 10-19, resp.

Phytochemical investigation of the whole plants of resulted in the isolation and identification of three new compounds (-), namely lycocernuaside E (), lycernuic ketone F (), and lycernuic B () and 12 known ones (-). Their chemical structures were established based on 1 D/2D NMR spectroscopic and HR-ESI-MS data analyses. Compounds , , and displayed NO inhibitory effects in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells, with IC values of 21.

The plants of Lycopodiaceae family, distributed across China, India and also Southeast Asia, have been used as folk medicines. The phytochemical constitutent studies of this family was widely reported. Serratene trierpenoids is one of phytochemical constitutent type, which have been mainly isolated from this plant family.

College of Pharmacy, Drug Research and Development Center, Catholic University of Daegu, Gyeongbuk 38430, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Phytochemical investigation of Lycopodium complanatum whole plants led to the isolation of two new serratene-type triterpenoids (1 and 2) along with eight known triterpenoids (3-10). Their structures were established using 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques and mass spectrometry. These compounds did not inhibit acetylcholinesterases (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), but did inhibit β-secretase 1 (BACE1).
