Florid osseous dysplasia (FOD) is a rare, benign fibro-osseous lesion primarily involving the mandible and maxilla, with a higher prevalence in middle-aged women of African or Asian descent. This article presents a case of mandibular FOD complicated by secondary infection, emphasizing clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and treatment strategies. The unique radiographic features of FOD necessitate careful differential diagnosis to prevent misdiagnosis with other jaw lesions.

Periapical lesions with mixed radiographic appearance can have odontogenic or nonodontogenic origin. A number of neoplastic lesions either benign or malignant can present as radiolucent, radiopaque, or mixed in jaws and if present near the root apices can be misdiagnosed as odontogenic infection/etiology. The present case report describes a rare case of two elongated radiopaque structures within periapical pathology located beneath the apices of mandibular central incisors in a 26-year-old male.

Insufficient osseointegration of titanium-based implants is a factor conditioning their long-term success. Therefore, different surface modifications, such as multifunctional oxide coatings, calcium phosphates, and the addition of molecules such as peptides, have been developed to improve the bioactivity of titanium-based biomaterials. In this work, we investigate the behavior of human oral mucosal stem cells (hOMSCs) cultured on amorphous titanium oxide (aTiO), surfaces designed to simulate titanium (Ti) surfaces, biofunctionalized with a novel sequence derived from cementum attachment protein (CAP-p15), exploring its impact on guiding hOMSCs towards an osteogenic phenotype.
