6-Hydroxybenzo[a]pyrene cleaved phi X174 supercoiled DNA to open circular DNA in the presence of heavy metal ions. It induced an alkali-labile modification in DNA via an oxygen-radical-mediated reaction; the most frequent alkali-labile sites were on the 3' side of the pyrimidine residues of the pyrimidine cluster.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are persistent environmental contaminants found in human tissues and persist in the environment, posing significant risks to reproductive health. This review examines the impact of PFAS exposure on male reproductive health, with a focus on sperm epigenetics. PFASs disrupt endocrine function by altering key reproductive hormones and impairing sperm motility, quality, and viability.

The placental DNA methylation landscape is unique, with widespread partially methylated domains (PMDs). The placental "methylome" is conserved across mammals, a shared feature of many cancers, and extensively studied for links with pregnancy complications. Human trophoblast stem cells (hTSCs) offer exciting potential for functional studies to better understand this epigenetic feature; however, whether the hTSC epigenome recapitulates primary trophoblast remains unclear.

The use of Bisphenol A (BPA) has been widely restricted due to its adverse health effects. Bisphenol Z (BPZ) is used as an alternative to BPA, and humans are widely exposed to BPZ through various routes. Recent studies have shown that BPZ exposure adversely affects mouse oocyte meiotic maturation.

Background: Sex is an important factor that contributes to both clinical and biological heterogeneity in Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the regulatory mechanisms underlying sex differences in AD are still not well understood. DNA methylation (DNAm) is an epigenetic modification that regulates gene transcription and is known to be involved in AD. However, due to analytical and biological complexity, few previous DNAm studies analyzed the X chromosome, where many genes influencing cognitive abilities and immune functions are located.

Amyloid fibrils are protein polymers noncovalently assembled through β-strands arranged in a cross-β structure. Biological amyloids were considered chemically inert until we and others recently demonstrated their ability to catalyze chemical reactions in vitro. To further explore the functional repertoire of amyloids, we here probe if fibrils of α-synuclein (αS) display chemical reactivity toward DNA.
