A 20-year-old previously well man drowned after performing a back-flip off a bridge into a river. At autopsy no significant injuries or organic illness were identified. An unusual incidental finding was a double chambered left ventricle, or so-called "heart within a heart", with the left ventricle subdivided into two separate chambers by a muscular septum. Awareness of this entity in forensic casework is important as this anomaly, despite its dramatic appearance, is not associated with anomalous conduction tracts or arrhythmogenic conditions, and so is usually a completely incidental finding at autopsy.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the iodine contrast in blood and solid organs differs between men and women and to evaluate the effect of BMI, height, weight, and blood volume (BV) on sex-specific contrast in staging CT.
Materials And Methods: Patients receiving a venous-phase thoracoabdominal Photon-Counting Detector CT (PCD-CT) scan with 100- or 120-mL CM between 08/2021 and 01/2022 were retrospectively included in this single-center study. Image analysis was performed by measuring iodine contrast in the liver, portal vein, spleen, left atrium, left ventricle, pulmonary trunk, ascending and descending aorta on spectral PCD-CT datasets.

Background: Referred to as the "forgotten chamber," the right ventricle (RV) is now widely acknowledged as a significant factor, particularly in certain cardiovascular pathologies. Despite historically being undervalued in comparison to the left ventricle, the RV function is deemed crucial in determining patient outcomes following mitral valve (MV) surgery. In the context of MV surgery, it is important to note that the RV is highly susceptible to dysfunction before, during, and after the surgical procedure.

Since FTD exhibits distinct regional atrophy patterns on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), AI-aided automated brain volume analysis could enhance the clinical diagnostic assessment of FTD, including the detection of the disease and the classification of subtypes, which encompass behavioral variant (BV), semantic variant (SV), and progressive non-fluent aphasia (PNFA). In this study, we leverage automated brain volumetry software to approach both FTD detection and the differential diagnosis among its subtypes.

Aim: Comparative assessment of structural changes in cardiomyocyte mitochondria of the right atrial appendage and the mitochondrial respiratory function in peripheral blood leukocytes in a cohort of patients after acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and with stable chronic heart failure of ischemic etiology with reduced ejection fraction (CHFrEF) or moderately reduced ejection fraction (CHFmrEF) of the left ventricle.
Material And Methods: The study analyzed 40 micrographs of right atrial appendage cardiomyocytes obtained from 12 patients with CHFrEF and CHFmrEF. The study protocol was registered on ClinicalTrials.

Background: While we know dementia in Alzheimer's disease (AD) results from the accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ), tau pathology, and hippocampus atrophy (HC), it is still unclear how these factors impose cognitive decline.
Method: We used Structural Equation Models (SEM; lavaan R package) to explore the complex relationships between the neurobiological factors in the early stages preceding AD dementia in the TRIAD cohort. Our sample comprised 333 timepoints of neuropsychological evaluation (MoCA), structural MRI, Aβ ([18F]AZD4694), and tau ([18F]MK6240) PET of cognitively healthy (NC) and mild cognitive impaired (MCI) participants.
