Species within the scleractinian genus Lamarck 1816 exhibit extreme phenotypic plasticity, making identification based on morphology difficult. However, the mitochondrial open reading frame (mtORF) marker provides a useful genetic tool for identification of most species in this genus, with a notable exception of and . Based on recent genomic work, we present a quick and simple, gel-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method for the identification of all six species occurring in Hawai'i by amplifying either the mtORF region, a newly discovered histone region, or both, and then using the restriction enzymes targeting diagnostic sequences we unambiguously identify each species Using this approach, we documented frequent misidentification of species based on colony morphology. We found that colonies are frequently mistakenly identified as in Kāne'ohe Bay, O'ahu. We also found that likely has a northern range limit in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands, above which was regularly mistaken for .

Solenogastres is a group of mollusks with evolutionary and ecological importance. Nevertheless, their diversity is underestimated and knowledge about the distribution of the approximately 300 formally described species is limited. Factors that contribute to this include their small size and frequent misidentification by non-specialists.

Background: The genus Allium is known for its high chromosomal variability, but most chromosome counts are based on a few individuals and genome size (GS) reports are limited in certain taxonomic groups. This is evident in the Allium sect. Codonoprasum, a species-rich (> 150 species) and taxonomically complex section with weak morphological differences between taxa, the presence of polyploidy and frequent misidentification of taxa.

Accurate identification of non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) species is crucial for the diagnosis and appropriate management of NTM infections. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of two assays, FluoroType Mycobacteria VER 1.0 and Maldi BioTyper (MBT) Mycobacteria.

is an emerging multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen that has become a significant global health concern, particularly in critically ill patients within hospital settings. It is known for its high mortality rates, diagnostic challenges, and frequent misidentification, which delays appropriate treatment. We present a case of a 72-year-old male with diabetes and hypertension who initially presented with a persistent cough, hemoptysis, and fever and was initially suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis.
