We report two cases of pleurisy caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria followed by pneumothorax. The onset of pleurisy was accompanied by acute fever. Cultured samples of the pleural effusions from the two patients, an 80-year-old man and an 87-year-old woman, were ultimately found to contain and , respectively. Both patients were initially administered antibiotics, but their fevers persisted. Therefore, different combinations of antimycobacterial drugs were used, which reduced the fever in a few days. In these patients, pleurisy caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria followed by pneumothorax was characterised by acute fever and improvement in the fever after administration of antimycobacterial drugs; however, the aetiology remains to be clarified.

Background: Approximately 30% of coronavirus disease 2019 COVID-19 patients develop fatigue and psychological symptoms. We previously demonstrated the efficacy of donepezil, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that is widely used to treat dementia, in basic research.

Methods: This is a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, controlled, phase II clinical trial in which 120 patients with COVID-19 will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to a donepezil or placebo group.

BACKGROUND Human metapneumovirus (hMPV), classified in the Pneumoviridae family, is primarily known for causing lower respiratory tract infections in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. However, rare instances have shown that hMPV can also affect other systems, such as the cardiovascular system, leading to conditions like myocarditis. CASE REPORT We describe a 68-year-old man with a medical history of diabetes, hypertension, and liver cirrhosis who presented to the Emergency Department (ED) exhibiting symptoms of fever, cough, and dyspnea.

Central nervous system (CNS) resident memory CD8 T cells (T) that express IFN-γ contribute to neurodegenerative processes, including synapse loss, leading to memory impairment. Here, we show that CCR2 signaling in CD8 T that persist within the hippocampus after recovery from CNS infection with West Nile virus (WNV) significantly prevents the development of memory impairments. Using CCR2-deficient mice, we determined that CCR2 expression is not essential for CNS T cell recruitment or virologic control during acute WNV infection.

Key Laboratory of Hepatosplenic Surgery, Ministry of Education, The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Harbin, 150001, People's Republic of China.

This study aimed to analyze the baseline clinical characteristics, as well as the clinical features and risk factors of early death (ED) in older patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). A retrospective analysis was conducted on 198 consecutive older patients (age ≥ 50 years) with newly diagnosed APL who received arsenic trioxide alone as induction therapy, with 354 younger patients (age < 50 years) as controls. Ten easily obtainable clinical parameters were selected.
